Betsy, soon as you get the form letter from your son it will have the PIR date on it. But best hold off until around 2-3 weeks before before booking tickets. This allows for any unseen circumstances like his being asmoed. Hotels that have a cancellation policy of 24 hours notice can be done soon as you get the PIR date.

Congrats, Crystal. I bet you are really getting excited.

That is a great deal. How long in advance do they let you know when their PIR takes place? I will have to fly there from NM and my husband is going to drive from Maryland. Ugh!

My sons PIR is 9/2...I booked my hotel reservations last night and was pleasantly surprised to get 2 rooms at "Great Lakes Motel"...the closest hotel to the base...they have a shuttle to grad...AND it was only $60 a night...not bad for an area with events and tourist attractions...I told the woman who booked my room that in MD things are just waaaaaaayy more expensive! Where is everyone else staying???

I don't think us moms are ever ready to see them go Betsy. It sounds like he's doing all the right things to prepare himself. That really helps for the PFA if he's working out now.

Thank you Sally & Lori.
I plan on visiting this site regularly, Lori. I am also on the NM moms site and it's pretty dead. I'm really looking to being active on here, but so far, some of the groups that I've joined just aren't that active. My hope is to make some great friends on here, We are all in this together. :)
I'm really starting to get nervous and scared about my son's soon to be date. He's had to do a lot of the workouts on his own since his Dep meetings and PT are only once a month. He's also been studying a lot, so I know he will be ready. I'm just not so sure I will ever be ready to let him go. :(

Betsy- welcome back! I've lived in MD since I moved here from London many moons ago. Your son's date is right around the corner isn't it? How are you processing the thought of him going?
I hope you come back to visit our site often.

Hello ladies,
I do not currently live in Maryland, but I was born and raised in Baltimore. Our family moved to Martinsburg, West Virginia in 1999 and then, in July of 2005, we were relocated to New Mexico by my husband's government job. Recently my husband has been relocated once again, and to our delight, it's to Washington, DC. We are currently starting the process of relocating back to Maryland. My youngest son, Adam, is a Depper here in New Mexico. He leaves for BC on October 25, 2010. By the time he finishes his PIR, we are hoping to be back in Maryland. I would love to be a part of your group and discussions. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Sorry- i get used to being on the ET/FC site! It is electronic tech. Missile tech sounds pretty neat! So you know Olney... neat! I also would love to meet another Navy mom. Is your son you're talking about your sailor?
