Ok so we have Joanne and me for Oct 5th. Anyone else good with that date?

Is Greenville a coastal town like Wilmington? I love NC. I told my husband I would move there in a heart beat!

Deneen- well congratulations! That's awesome news of your upcoming wedding! Glad you have your daughter near home to with her husband. Thanks for checking in and giving us your news!

Hi Linda! That is hard when they are on a sub- they have even less contact with the outside world than the rest of the ships do.

Brandon's mom, I didn't know about the Boxer. Who else is in that strike group? Is your son on Coronado Island? How is he doing with going out on his first deployment? Start your care packages now! When mine leaves I get lots of priority boxes and customs forms from the PO. [ extra forms as I ALWAYS mess up!] and when I'm at the store and see things I know he likes or are on sale i get them and throw them in the next box to go. Oh- lesson learned- I use lots of duct tape! First I tape the inside and then the whole outside. Reinforce the edges well. I don't cover up the top but the sides and edges are strong! Paul said he's never gotten a crushed box yet and I send him "old bay crab chips!"

I hope we can all meet in Oct. Do we want to get a consensus - maybe Saturday the 5th?

Hi everyone!

Lunch in October sounds good.  The only weekend I'm out of town is Oct 11-13.

It sounds like several of our sailors and soldiers are being deployed.  Joey should be going out soon but I don't know exactly when.  When he is on the sub, I won't hear from him very much - only once the last time he went out.

Joanne - You are so right! This is so different than sending a child to college.  I am sending one this weekend to College Park and even though he won't be home much, I know I can call him or get there in an hour to see him.  Even when Joey went out of state for college, it wasn't the same as being deployed.  Hang in there - we are tough moms!

Brandon's mom- my son is in SD too. I thought I knew the ships stationed there but didn't know of one going out so soon. His next deployment is a 9 month one as well. I'm not looking forward to that but then neither is he! It depends on what your son does as to how much contact you will have with him. Is this his first deployment?

Joanne- Kuwait? If you had said someplace more exotic I might have raised my hand! So there is a Greenville in NC too? Wonder how far that is from Wilmington?

Hello everyone. Can't wait to meet everyone. My son is now is San Diego, he leaves Friday for his first deployment. He will be out for 9 months. Hope I can handle it. He was home last weekend for 5 day and its hard to believe I won't see him until April. Not sure how how much contact we will have with him. Hope everyone is having a great summer.

Hi Mickey! The summer really has flown by thought I'd like the Fall weather we were having back!  Where is your sons A school? When my son graduated A [ he was still at Great Lakes] it took awhile for him to go on to C school in SD [ which is where he is stationed now]. He also would have liked to have been on a Riverine boat but those assignments are hard to get. So I wouldn't worry too much yet about that! Japan or Guam- I agree, too far away! It seems far enough my son being in SD! What rate is your son?

Joanne- don't think I told you but my NC daughter and family are trying to decide whether to move to Greenville SC with her husbands job. Too far away i said!

Ok so we are looking at Oct for a lunch. Any dates we want to throw around yet?

Hi everyone.  Its been awhile its nice to hear how everyone is doing.  The summer has flown by and my little ones are back to school tomorrow.  My sailor graduated A School last Friday and is now awaiting orders.  Hope he gets them soon and can come home for a visit.  I am not in love with the options he thinks his orders may be but he is an adult and he picked them but as a mom they worry me.  He really wants to go to VA and be on a Riverine (not sure I am spelling that right) boat which he tells me is a combat boat!!!!!  He said he also put down that he would go to Japan or Guam and they are to far away for this momma.  Hope to see you all at lunch in October, I could use a shopping day in Columbia!!!!  I also want to hear all about your summer trips, seems as though you have all been on some great adventures!!!

Joanne, I can't believe it's been a year since Kevin left. Seems like just a couple weeks ago we were talking about it. I'm glad he is liking it better because I remember when we talked about it and he was so upset and felt he'd made a bad choice. That is good news about him being more settled. BTW- our date is still on my calendar!

Carol- I am so sorry that it's been this long since you have seen your daughter. The time that goes by whether it's because of distance or deployments is hard on us mother's. My son is an adult [ almost 26] but I still think of him as my 'baby' [ he is the youngest] but I have to be careful not to do the whole 'smothering' thing when I do see him. How is your daughter doing with not having graduated with her group? It must have been hard on all of you.

I live in Olney. The MD mom's seem to be spread all over. Last time we met it was in Columbia.

Lori- I have not seen my girl since she left for bootcamp on April 23rd. We had planned to go to her BC PIR on 6/21 but she was moved to the FIT on Monday that week and then the following week to the RCU due to shin splints. She spent 2 weeks on crutches and is now finally off those darn things. I would love to meet up with any moms nearby. I am in Baltimore (Dundalk to be exact) lol
