Joanne, I remember getting that comment when Paul was in bc. I lost it! And it was my MOM who said it! I don't think it gets easier when they leave. We just took our sailor to the airport last night. His leave was brief and he spent a lot of it with his friends but it was good to see him when he was home. I always cry at the airport. You have our support Joanne as you go and say good bye to Kev.

Lindsay- welcome! Have you heard from your daughter at all? When did she leave?

Carol, welcome! [if you've been on here before I hope you don't mind another welcome!] Sorry about your daughter's injuries. Have you seen her since it happened?

Betsy- yes we need to do another lunch especially, to meet the new ladies.. We can wait till you are around in Oct.

My daughter is there. She has been there since 4/23 and has been in the FIT div and RCU for shin splints. I am in Baltimore

Lindsaysproudmom, Oh you must be so proud!  My sailor actually graduated in Dec. 2010, but I do also help out on the PIR groups as well.  I saw your name on the members list of your daughter's PIR group and keeping up to date with members of her group will help a lot. They are going through exactly what you are right now.

We all do remember those emotions and feelings like they were yesterday, so we will be here for you as well.  Are you heading up to GL for her graduation?  It is the most awesome experience of your lifetime, as I'm sure you are aware.  Please thank your daughter for her service and it will be great to get to know you.

Where are you in Maryland?  I'm in Carroll County.  We do get together for lunch and we have a wonderful group of ladies on here.  I hope to meet you soon.

Any Maryland moms out there with a son/daughter at RTC now? My daughter is set to PIR on 9/13. I would love to hear from some of you that have been through this already or are going through it now.

Joanne, You just vent away sweetie!  You have every right!

Btw, I would probably have to smack one of those moms who cry when they go off to college and I even have a daughter who goes to college in NM.  :)   Deployments are sooooooooo different.   The "see you laters" have never gotten easier for me either.   :(

It's time for lunch ladies, but please don't go until Oct.  I will be driving out to see my kids in Sept.

Hello to all of you! I am back now from London. I tried to keep in touch but the silly little cheap lap top I brought wouldn't do anything and the print was the size of a grain of sand. If I made it bigger I got one sentence on the screen! Too annoying to do anything with it.

Good to read your posts. Betsy- I hope your trip went well with your grand kids.

Joanne- what happened to your brother? I missed something I think.

Donna- that's great you got to see your son. I know it's never enough is it? Do you get to see your grand daughter much? They grow up so quick.

Coming back to this weather is going to take some adjustment! Where we were it was quite warm [ unseasonable actually] -upper 80s and everyone complained about that. Of course no homes have AC so it was uncomfortable but nothing compared to this! We got in last night and it just seemed strange to walk back in my house after a month. Time difference is difficult as I was well adapted to theirs by now. I did a lot and had an awesome time. Staying with my friends was great. Got to see my son a few times for dinner. Life is just different there and I like it. It has always felt like home to me.

Paul is coming home next month which I'm VERY excited about. Haven't seen him since Christmas. He's meeting his sister, her husband and kids in Disney and then driving to NC after, where we will be. My other daughter needs us to watch our grand daughter while her husband is away for business and she works [ they live in Wilmington NC]. So Paul and them will stop off after their 5 days in FL and then we will all drive home back to MD. He will be staying with us for a week. I know his niece and nephew are excited to go to Disney and see him as well!

Hope to catch up with all of you soon.

Hi Maryland Moms !! It has been ages since I have been on here ! I hope everyone is having a great summer and able to visit as many of our Sailors as possible !

I have been to Norfolk to see my son just once this summer. It seems that his ship has decided to go underway during this time. If not out, he has been having duty affecting part of the weekend. Crazy thing is, his ship will be going dry docked for 10 months the end of August. Just in time for school to start and I won't be able to get there still ! Oh well, nothing I can do about it. Our grand daughter is now 5 months old. She is the joy of my life ! I still hope to be able to make it to lunch when the next one is planned !! Take care and may all of our Sailors be safe wherever they are !!  ~Donna~

Linda, Yikes! 105!  You sure have been busy.

I am heading to Myrtle Beach on Sunday with my grand children.  Pray that I survive the 8 1/2 hour drive down there all by myself with a 6 year old and 11 year old in the car, lol.  My hubby has to work (and it's best anyway, cause he has no patient with the kids, lol) so I decided to take them down there by myself.  Thankfully I do have a good friend, from MD, who now lives there and we will get together.  Plus one of my good friends from NM will also be on vacation there next week with her grand children.  It will be great to see them both.   :)   a, I will be home after that until September.  I will be on the road to see all of my kids out west, so I will be gone all of September.  I  hope we can plan a get together for lunch in August.

Happy Fourth of July to everyone! It's hard not having our sailors home for the holidays, but they are all doing amazing work to keep us free and safe!

Joanne - How's your brother doing? I am keeping him in my prayers.

Betsy - It sounds like your son is doing a great job getting himself in a good position when it comes time for him to re-enlist.

I've have been busy with work lately.  I was at a conference in Salt Lake City, Utah last week.  They are having a heat wave and it was 105 degrees when I was there.  I will be going to Abilene, TX in a little over a week and then I am in Ohio in August.  But I am looking forward to another lunch when everyone is back from vacations!

Hi Joanne!  ((Hugs))  Unfortunately I truly do know understand how you feel and there are so many days where I feel exactly the same way.  (well, pretty much every day).   It sounds like once Lori gets back from awesome trip, we will all be due for another fun lunch.  My hugs and love go out to you.

I have been keeping your brother in my prayers.  I do hope that his recovery will go well.

I haven't officially welcomed our new members, but we love having you all on board.  We do get together every couple of months for lunch, so I really hope that you can join us next time.

I have been off of here for a bit.  I too am having a bit of a hard time lately with my kids being so far away.  I have been trying to keep those blues to myself.

My sailor seems to be enjoying his shore time now in Bremerton.  He is sharing a house with a couple of other sailors and loves it.  His ship is in dry dock and he works on the barge doing paper work.  His lieutenant hand picked him for that job, and even though he does say it's pretty boring, he still seems ok with the Navy right now.  He passed his E4 exam this last time and only 24% in his rate did, so he was a happy camper about that.  Then he got his evaluation recently, which was an EP (which is the highest evaluation available as an Early Promote), so needless to say, he is continuing to do well.   With the EP, if he does try to re-enlist, he will have an advantage over others with his evaluation now.  I just really wish his rate wasn't so overmanned.  :(    It's such a shame that he is doing everything exactly right and he might still be turned down for re-enlistment if there is no job available for him.
