Thanks for all the kind words, this is all so new to me. He was originally leaving in June and then they moved it up to March so not so long to grow used to the idea. I am so proud but worrying all the time. It so wonderful to have support from others who have been there. I am going to try to come to the lunch I will let you know for sure closer to the date, as I also have a 3 and 5 year old at home to keep me busy while my baby is away serving his country!!!! I am very familiar with Columbia, my best friend used to live there in fact when we left MEPS we went straight to PF Changs to drown my sorrow in Lettuce Wraps!!! Looking very forward to meeting you all.
BigBlue, we are finally all figured out! Woohoo, lucky girl, you get to see your sailor tomorrow. I hope you have a wonderful time together.
mickey, Hi, it's great to meet you. Two of my children actually went to high school in Hagerstown at St. Maria Goretti High School. We were living in Martinsburg, WV at the time.
Joanne, I would love that for dinner, but my husband always has to have his meat, chicken or fish, lol.
Just got home from work and I've never seen so much activity on our site! Welcome to our two newest moms! BigBlue and Mickey good to have you on here!
I'm gonna have to go back and catch up but I wanted to extend an invitation to our lunch on April 6th to you both. I know Hagerstown [ sort of] but not in relation to where Columbia is. Where do you live BigBlue?
Mickey- how are you doing? I remember the time when my son went off to bc [ it will be 3 years ago next month] as if it was yesterday. The raw feeling of pride, sadness, worry - well you name it I went through a lot of emotion- except happiness! The letter I got [ I've kept every single one of those precious gems!] was a scripted letter too. I was hoping he'd have put a little "extra" to it but my son plays by the rules so I should have known better!
I am a new mom to this. My son just left for Boot Camp on 3/13. I live in Hagerstown, MD. I got my letter today and rushed to the mail box to mail some to him.
BigBlue, I think you still have to approve my friend request. When I went into my friends list you weren't on it yet.
Hi Big Blue! Welcome! This group of ladies is awesome!
I'm Betsy and my youngest son is stationed out of Bremerton, WA but the carrier he is attached too has been deployed in the middle east since last August. His ship is back next month. I do have a few friends with sons on subs and actually one friend's son just came back too. I wonder if your son and her's were on the same sub? Her son is on the USS Rhode Island Blue.
I will also also send you a friend request. Can't wait to get to know you.
I wonder if Linda is going to get back on here to check. I know that she had some conflicts with March, but maybe she can still make April 6.
Joanne, love the picture! You look so happy in that bright sunshine. It's a shame you couldn't bring some of it back with you.
I'm good with Uno's too. I haven't been there since the one in Bel Air closed a few years ago. So, so far that is 3 definites for April 6, at Uno's in Columbia. What time should we meet?
I do know that Anna can't make it, as she had prior plans. She does hope to catch up with us after her tax season job ends. It's keeping her pretty busy right now.
I have sent my sailor Old Bay seasoning, Crab Chips and Yoohoo's, while he has been deployed. He loves getting those since he can't get any of that while on the ship or when he is in port in Bremerton either. I just sent his last deployment box last week and recently they have been taking about 3 weeks to get to him. He should get that one before he arrives in Hawaii, hopefully.
Yeah the ship is in port right now. Since the refurb was finished in Jan it's gone on short runs and will be again. Paul lives near the ship [ but not walking distance on base] so goes to work everyday on the ship even when it's in port. When he has duty he sleeps on the ship.
I imagine the alligator jerky will get a lot of comments when it gets there! Since I'm not a meat eater any of that stuff sounds gross to me!
When Paul was at sea for several months I sent a box a week but it varied time wise when he got it. Once it only took 2 weeks! But then it could take 3-4. No telling really.
Joanne- my vote is Uno's! I had a GF pizza there awhile ago that was pretty decent [ for GF!]. So unless someone has another suggestion I say Uno's!
That's good news you heard from Jason and he liked his box. What's a half way box? I sent Paul a care package even though he's port side [ except for short runs] and he said he liked everything. I sent him Crab chips [ found them in Target] which he loves. Can't get those in SD! Sounds like your boxes are fancier than what I send! Where on earth do you get "alligator jerky?" I've never even heard of it. Sounds- interesting! Tastes like "chicken" right!
I'm putting April 6th on the calendar!
