Lori, Yep, that's exactly what happened, he got 3 boxes just today!  And the funny thing is, that he said in his email, that he was also on the work party to unload them, lol.  He said he told one of his buddies, that with all those boxes, there had better be some in there from his mom, ;)  .

Betsy that is good news! It will take awhile to get through all those pallets. I've seen the place on the ship where the pallets are put which is huge - where the planes are kept- and he told me that it would be half full sometime with all the boxes. So Adam will have several boxes at once when they get delivered to him!

Well, apparently the RAS today included 84 pallets of mail, so it does sound to me like they were definitely pulling his leg.  I'm guessing in a day or two he will get some of the boxes.  :)

Yeah, I would have felt much better if they had just said it wasn't true.  :(   I am coming up on 4 weeks tomorrow for the first 2 boxes, so maybe he will still get them.

Why couldn't they tell you something useful? I think on average it took 4 weeks for my packages to get to Paul. One time it was only 3 weeks. If this is a rumor then chances are he might get several packages at once when they finally come.

I had not heard about the flotation devices. I do remember Paul telling me when something broke in his shop he would have to order the parts. I guess if they came in on the same pallets as the mail the Navy sure wouldn't want important supplies they needed to be floating in the ocean.

lori, Wow! What a cool family history.   Do you think you will be able to get back one day see your son?

Apparently, the rumor wasn't only told to Adam, as another "newbie" mom has said that her son told her the same thing.  I did contact the ombudsman FB page and unfortunately they didn't confirm or deny it the rumor, but they did say that each pallet is equipped with flotation devices, so that if it does happen to be dropped, they could be recaptured.  Some of moms on that page did say that most of the time it took their packages anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to arrive while they are deployed.  So, right now, I'm holding off on replenishing those boxes until at least a week or so.

It's sounding more like a nasty rumor. This was TOLD to Adam? Now that sounds suspicious.

I'm not from England but lived there for 10 years. My dad was sent there through his job with the Government. Worked for a Navy contracting company. I went to school on an American base and met my English husband when I was in high school. We married [ I was 18] and lived in England where I had 2 children [ my son went back last year and lives there now]. They have English citizenship. When we moved to the US I had 2 more kids who have American citizenship. Funny huh! I loved living there and still miss it a lot.

Lori, thanks I hadn't even thought of contacting the ombudsman.  I did go on their FB page and ask about it though.  One of the dads has a daughter who works on deck, and he has said that he hasn't heard that it happened.  He said that he did know that it happened to the Enterprise with the food.  I'm still hoping it's a rumor.  I emailed Adam and told him that, so hopefully some of the sailors who told him will "fess up" when he asks them about it.

I actually had no idea that you were from England, btw.

Hi Anna! I'm sure your in the midst of a lot of stuff right now. I've lived in MD since we moved from England [ a long time ago now] and had to learn to drive here. I never thought about all the requirements as I haven't done anything else.

That's great that D will be back soon. I'm sure you are really looking forward to that!

Betsy- I hope it IS a rumor! Then that would mean none of the stuff has been lost. However what a mean rumor that would be for the "newbies." Glad our Vinson group didn't "initiate" us new moms that way! I hope Adam gets all his boxes at once now. Could you contact the Stennis' Ombudsman and ask if this is true or not? They would know.

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on October 3, 2012 at 3:55pm

Hi Anna, I hope you had a good trip.  :)  Yes, MD is horrible with all that you need for a license and registration.  It also costs a fortune to register a car here too  :(

Well, some of the other moms on the Stennis group are saying that sometimes they kid around with the newbies and make up that story, so I'm hoping that is all it is.  But, they could be saying that just to make us feel better too, so who knows?  I did send 2 boxes 4 weeks ago and they still have not arrived, so I don't know what to believe now.
