Btw, it does seem as though the Air Force has done well for him, didn't it?  I can't even imagine spending a million dollars on a retirement home.

Joanne, Awww, how fun. I bet that was an awesome weekend!  It's so great to experience those days again, isn't it?

I saw that House Hunters episode too and cried when he said that.

Betsy, thank you!

I'm so glad we are close - look forward to meeting you girls, soon!

You and I both have crossed over into "empty-nester" territory and from parenting to coaching - it's not always easy but like you, I love seeing my adult kids excel and enjoy the grands, too.

Congrats on all your kids! Awesome! You guys moved way north too - big change.

My mom-in-law lives in New Mexico and that is where my father-in-law worked: White Sand AFB - after working on the Apollo Missions back in the day.

I feel your pain regarding the deployment... hopefully he can stay in touch, at least, electronically. May God protect all our Sailors and troops!

Joanne B - isn't it funny how the journey into the military goes?! Seems this is Kevins better choice.

Given current global events, I hope and pray that we only go where we are supposed to be as a military force... Hooyah!

Welcome, Anna!  It's so nice to have a new member.  Thank you so much for your family's sacrifice.  Your family has given so much and we do appreciate it. I accepted your friend request on FB and was happy to see that you are moving to Westminster.

I live in the Eldersburg area, so I'm also not too far from you.  It's nice that we all live within about a half an hour of each other.  :)  I am a recent empty nester (last year) of 5 now.  I spend my time helping take care of my parents and the occasional babysitting of my awesome grandchildren.

Our oldest daughter Shannon lives here in Maryland with our two grandchildren, oldest son Eric stayed back in New Mexico and lives and works there (we had lived there until last spring) our next daughter Kristen just recently moved from Hawaii to Colorado, where he bf is currently going to college.  She had moved to Hawaii after her college graduation to live there with her fiance was in the Navy.  He got out 2 weeks ago after his 6 years as an ET on a sub.  Our youngest daughter Michelle is a Biology major (senior) at the University of New Mexico (and also a straight A student  :) )  Last, but not least is our youngest son Adam.  Our sailor is stationed in Bremerton, WA on the USS CVN 74 John C. Stennis.  His ship is currently on it's way to the middle east for 8 1/2 months.  :(

Joanne, I love the places that you are staying.  I googled them, lol.  I am so excited for you.  What a wonderful trip.

Linda, Woohoo!  Those precious weekends are so cherished.

Lori, I love the ET phone home too.  :)

I have had a magnet on my car for two years that says "My son, my sailor, my hero, may God watch over him and keep him safe" and a Blue Star Flag on my mirror and no one has ever said anything about them.  I can't believe that people would do that.  That's just awful!

Joanne - That's great news about Jason getting his Dolphins! You're itinerary look wonderful - enjoy your trip!

Welcome Anna!

It took me awhile to catch-up tonight - lots of new posts. I love catching up with everyone.

Hopefully we can work out a time to get together soon. My son will be home for a 4 day weekend next weekend.  I am enjoying these while I have them as he will be getting orders in the next few months.

Lori - thank u for the nice welcome :-)

Until we traded in our Camry, we had both Navy & Marine stickers! And Belhaven University stickers, too - We only ever got nice remarks from folks... I think most Texans are very patriotic, so that helps. We are PROUD MOMS! As it should be.

Joanne B ~

When Kev joins the Army, the USA will get another good young man! You'll be proud. It is hard...when that last one leaves. Still kinda is for me, sometimes. I really understand.

Daniel has been deployed for about 10 months - he works in the Radio and Communications shop...does lots of electronics repairs and stuff like that. Though I cannot be really specific, I can say he has been both "inside and outside the wire" and in many areas around Afgh. Now their Unit is preparing to turn things over the the new Unit coming in and then he will be home bound in the late fall! SKYPE was a HUGE help in communicating with him and FB chat, too! I'm soooo thankful for that.

Jacob works with the Navy Chaplains...he's a body guard to the unit chaplain  and he does administrative / ministry helps duties, as well!  Sorry 'bout that;  CB stands for Construction Battalion.

Some people may use the term "SeaBee's" - When we visited the Gulfport base, Walt Disney's "bee" was there standing tall, at the Navy CB Base gate!

anyone want to connect with me on FB? http://www.facebook.com/anna.valle

Please let me know when the Maryland Moms do schedule a meet-up...

Joanne- at least YOU think it's funny! My daughter says "mom he's at that "it's too cool to let it show" stage!

I have never had anyone say anything negative about my license plate cover - proud Navy mom. For someone to say something snide to you well definitely poo on them! I think you should have a sticker saying "what is your kid doing?" next to those. Those other people are jealous I'm sure! I have a sticker of the ship Paul is on on my window but no one has mentioned that either. Well I'm proud of him and I'm going to let it show!

Just got home from classes. I want to say a big WELCOME to Anna! So glad you found our group and welcome to MD too! Like Joanne said- I can't believe you have 4 in the military! You must spend a fortune in sending out care packages!

Do you have Navy AND Marine stickers on your car???!!!

Joanne- your itinerary looks awesome! Drinking age is 18 in England too. Though when I grew up there I was drinking far younger than that! Never once got "carded" like here. Kev can legally order a pint in Ireland- I'm sure he's excited about that prospect!

I got a call last night from Paul. I guess my "ET phone home" on his FB wall accomplished that! Paul is an ET [ electronics technician] so I thought it was funny. I asked him if he thought it was and he said "no." Guess my "mom" humor failed again! He's taking the advanced placement test [E5] this thursday. Told me it was 200 questions. I know it's hard to get. He passed it the first time he took it but so many don't get the grade. I'm hoping this time he will.

Thanks Betsy! I didn't get a chance to look at your photos yet but I will.

Enjoy this beautiful weather!

thank u JoanneB ~ I have 4 young adult "kids" and they are all serving int he Military; two are Navy and two are Marines. OORAH!

My eldest, Zak, is taking his Comp today and Grad from Power School in GC is this Friday! He's EM and will do Prototype in GC.

Jacob is an RP and serving on CB base in Gulfport.

Daniel, youngest, is a Marine, currently deployed in the Middle east - comin' home in November! Thank God :-)

My son-in-law is also a Marine (MP) - married to Sarah (Marine wife / only daughter) and they have given us 2 grands! They live on base in NC!

We live north of Baltimore - just moved here a few weeks ago...well sort of. My hubby took a career move with a new company so he moved up (from Texas) and now I'm here with him - looking for homes. We will very likely settle in Westminster.

I REALLY look forward to gathering with MD moms when ever I can :-)
