Hey Lori, you found me. :) I accepted your friend request and just glanced at your profile picture. Your grandchildren are adorable.
Glad your husband didn't have to walk home!!! I don't know why he didn't call my cell. If he calls it's usually around 7pm our time. But if he's on duty than it won't be tonight :(
You gave me an idea! I never thought about the patterned duct tape. I use so much but then I could just use the pretty stuff for the edges and top. I tape the inside to reinforce it and than really tape all the edges well which is where the box tends to get crushed. But animal prints would be fun! I'll remember that for when he goes out again.
Joanne- a castle!!! Wow you'd better get pics! Ireland will be so pretty this time of year. Good for Jason- 2 1/2 years will fly by [ I hope!] for him. Hope he gets passes that test to get the rate increase.
Betsy- I'm going to look for you on FB.
Lori, ((hugs)) to you on missing the call. :( I know how devastating that can be. I'm sure he will call again really soon, especially since he knows that you are anxious to hear from his voice. I missed a call from Adam last Saturday, which was the day his ship was leaving San Diego. We were in the car on the drive home and I didn't hear my phone ring. My husband had the radio on so loud in the car, that I never heard it. :( I saw the missed call and voicemail about 15 minutes after they left the harbor. It's a good thing that I was able to see the ship leave the harbor on the SD webcam though or my husband would have been walking all the way home from New Mexico, lol. He redeemed himself by bringing his mobile hotspot with him to NM. So, while he was driving, I was able to go on my laptop and watch them manning the rails and then watch the ship leave the harbor. :)
I love the duct tape idea, thanks! They have such cool prints and colors now, too, so why not make it a package that everyone will be able to see? :) Adam will love it!
Joanne, Oh wow, a castle, how cool! I'm so jealous of your travels. What an awesome adventure to take with both of your Kevins. A castle is a castle, no matter how big it is. I can't wait to see pictures. Do you have a FB page? I think we should all friend each other, don't you?
My Facebook name is Betsy Thommen Sandine
Joanne, that is an AWESOME big deal! Congrats to Jason! Do you think now that he has that he'll not be so discouraged about his time in the Navy? Will he stay now? Glad you got the Christmas thing worked out! Yes money is always a good thing for them. I'm sure you'll find something interesting in Ireland. How I envy you getting to go there! What places will you visit/stay at?
Betsy- doesn't it just put a smile on your face when you get to talk [ even if not by phone] to your son? Seems like all is right with the world when you know they are ok. I haven't talked to Paul in over 2 weeks. I finally wrote on his FB- ET phone home [ he is an ET in the Navy] and he called but I was out. I'm hoping he'll try again tonight.
So far so good with Adam right? That's neat he's thinking about his future. Even if things change it's good for them to have some sort of a plan in mind.
I'm sure he'll love the care package you're sending him. The PO got to know me every week with my large priority box ducted tape so well that NOTHING would burst it open. Paul said so many boxes that mom's would send their kids would be crushed when they arrived. Mine all arrived intact. Thank God for duct tape! I had a way to tape that box that it couldn't be destroyed unless an elephant sat on it!
Woohoo! on the Dolphin pin, Joanne! I know quite a sub mom friends and I know that is a big deal.
What a wonderful trip to look forward too. I bet you can't wait!
I've been getting some emails from Adam and this morning, while he was on watch, he briefly signed in to his FB chat. (I sure hope he doesn't get in trouble for that, though). I actually cried when I saw that he was on there. We talked for about 15 minutes on there, so that was nice. :) I'm getting ready to send his Halloween care package tomorrow and that really made this D seem so real. :( He is now talking about trying to get into a job in Intel when he is finished with his first 4 years, so we shall see if that happens. He would have to be accepted into the program and it's 3 years in school and then 3 years active. So he is talking about staying in the Navy for awhile. We will take it one day at a time, because I do know that being out on deployment for 8 months could certainly change his mind on that later on.
Hey Joanne! How long will you be in Ireland for? How awesome to be able to go there. Can't imagine lunch without you being there : (
Ok I was thinking about this- gifts you could get Jason. He could probably use new boxers [ seems they always need them and socks]. That's practical stuff. What about some kind of hand held game thingy? Guys are into gadgets right? That would be small and easy to pack and you could get a couple games to go with it. Like the Nintendo DS. That could be his "main" gift. Not sure how much they are but it's not real big in terms of size.
You must be getting excited!
Hi Lori, the drive was good. We were just ahead of Isaac, so didn't get much rain, thank goodness. My husband's driving is still kinda scary, but we made it.
I could do lunch anywhere and Saturdays are good for me too. We could always meet in Columbia again.
Welcome back Betsy! How did the drive go? Have you heard from Adam since he left?
Where and when should we do lunch? Probably have to be a Saturday for me.
Well, ladies, I'm back now. Anyone want to go to lunch soon? I have to keep myself busy to keep from thinking about things.
Joanne, oh exciting about your early Christmas celebration! That is so great! I hope you post some pictures. It sounds like it will be an awesome family get together. Yes, I would love to get to know your friend, thank you. I am still feeling pretty lost in the deployment stage.
I'm so sorry to hear about the fallen solder. My prayers go out to his family. :(
Linda, sending good luck to Joey on his text. When we get a date for a get together, we will plan to carpool for sure.
Lori, I got a very nice email from Kathf and I'm getting ready to email her back. I have taken a step back on here this week, just needed a little breather after Monday's ship departure.
