Joanne, starting to get my strength back little by little except I caught a cold and so am suffering with that. It will pass. I am looking forward to the beach, just not the work involved getting all the stuff together and packing! Our daughter [ the one here with her 2 kids] will be coming along with her husband. He can only stay a few days but she will stay the week. They have another couple with their to 2 kids coming for the weekend. It will be busy I'm sure. I am hoping to get some "down" time but with the kids there I'm not sure about that!
I'm sorry that the house situation is still ongoing. You would have thought SOMEONE would be interested in it being so close to NASCAR. My older daughter and her husband [ who live in NC] love it. Of course if you live in NC you had better love it! I hope things work out for you and Kevin.
It's best not to think about Kev going yet. Wait till you HAVE to deal with it. Where will his basic training be?
Joanne, thank you. ((hugs)) about Kevin. Are you selling a house in Del. or is it a vacation house that you are packing up after the summer?
I will be home in September, so maybe we can plan a lunch soon.
Awww, Lori ((hugs)). I don't think we will ever get used to the empty house. :(
I bet your grand daughter is a cutie pie and that age is so adorable. I bet you are really looking forward to the beach.
Thanks for the concern about the drive, you are very sweet. I do have a good friend in West Virginia who was talking to me today about "possibly" flying out and going back with me. But, unfortunately sometimes we plan things and at the last minute she can't do it because of work issues. We shall see what happens this time. We would have a blast if she could do it though. :)
Betsy- thanks for posting that photo! That restaurant sounds like a lot of fun. Good thing you're husband had a coupon!
My daughter, her husband, their 21 month old daughter and their 2 Boxers just left to go back home to NC. They were here for 4 days. Not nearly long enough since we don't get to see them but every 5-6 months or so. My grand daughter has changed a lot since we saw them last in March. Talking and walking in that time. It's so hard saying good bye. The house is too quiet. My other daughter and her 2 kids were here everyday so it was a house full. Now comes the task of cleaning it! We leave for the beach [ Rehobeth] on Saturday so I want to get it done and then pack for the beach.
I wish you could have someone share the drive back with you Betsy but I guess if you made the trip there you can do the trip back. Won't be nearly the same kind of feelings coming home as it was driving to NM in anticipation of seeing Adam. I will keep you in my prayers on the 1st thru the 5th.
Here is a picture of my husband, me, daughter Michelle, Adam and my oldest son Eric at dinner last night. Sorry the picture is so grainy, but the restaurant is so dark that you can't get a good picture. It's a steak house that is set up like an old speakeasy. It's pretty cool, because when you make your reservation, you are given a password to enter. You have to know where it is, because there is no name on the building and you go in a black door to enter. There is a guy at the front who gives you the whole speech on not bringing in any machines guns or causing any bad blood feelings while there, lol. It's a favorite of the rich and famous in Albuquerque, so they also ask you not to react if you see famous people as customers because they are also there to enjoy their evening just as we are. We only went there because my husband had a coupon for $100 off $200 bill and we ordered off the "couples" menu which was pretty affordable. If we had ordered off the regular menu without our coupon, our total bill for dinner would have exceeded over $400! Yikes! But, with the coupon, we were able to get appetizers, entree, wine and dessert for all of us and it cost us $168 and that included the 20% tip. So, for 5 people it wasn't so bad for a 5 star restaurant.
Lori, thank you, it's so nice to read your posts, because you really do understand what I'm feeling right now, since have been through this.
I was supposed to leave New Mexico to drive back to Maryland on Monday, Aug. 20th, because Adam flies back to Bremerton on Aug. 29, but now my husband has to come back out to Albuquerque on the 28th for a business trip. I'm just going to stay out here (thank God for great friends who are putting me up) until he goes back to Maryland on Aug. 31. I will probably start my drive back to Maryland on Sept. 1. My husband is going to check to see if he can take some time off to come back with me in the car, but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed on that one. With this new financial program that they are working on being in the final stages, they don't want the key people to take any more days off for a few months. :( I should be back in Maryland by Sept. 5, at the latest.
Betsy, I'm glad the dinner went well. It's hard for men I think to show emotion even though it still comes out in other ways. When Paul first left for his deployment [ same place as Adam is going] it was hard but as the days/weeks went by it got easier [ for us] until I saw a news program that wanted to sensationalized the situation and then I was depressed for days. But we have to remember that we have a MIGHTY Navy. They don't purposely put anyone in harms way.
That's great you have some fun times planned for this week. What day will you have to get on the road?
Official orders : ( yes I remember that made it seem more real when Paul got those. Sounds like you ordered some useful items for him. Does he have a light weight sleeping bag? We got one for Paul before he left and he found that helpful. Racks aren't very comfortable. And a flashlight too. Oh and 2 pairs of flip flops.
Blessings to you Betsy. I'll be praying for your travels home.
Thank you Linda. We had dinner tonight with two of my NM children, my husband, Adam and myself and thank goodness we all had a great time. We picked Adam's favorite Albuquerque restaurant and he was very happy. :) I know that my husband is very worried about Adam's deployment and maybe this is the way he is dealing with it. He does leave tomorrow to go back to Maryland and I know that he is probably also a little bit jealous that I am able to stay and spend more time with Adam, but he would never say that to me. Adam and I have some fun times planned this week and he will also get to spend some time with his NM friends, so I know that he is enjoying his time. Adam knows that his dad doesn't deal with stress very well, so I think he is just taking it with a grain of salt.
Adam has the official Order now, so by the end of the month, they will be underway. :( I have ordered him a Rack pack and I also bought him a mini fan that in addition to having an electric plug, also has a usb connection so he can plug it into his laptop too. He loves it and knows that it will be well-needed on this ship.
Betsy, Prayers for you & your husband as you spend these last few days with Adam. Enjoy the time with your son!
Thanks, Linda. I have to admit that this drive seemed to be a lot longer than the last one. I guess I'm getting tired of them.
We are in Colorado for the weekend visiting with my daughter til tomorrow and then I get to drive 7 hours back to Albuquerque. My husband flies back to Maryland on Tuesday and I don't know if he's having a hard time dealing with Adam's deployment or what, but he has been a bear this whole trip. I hate to admit it but I'll be happy when he goes and I have some less stressful time iwth Adam. Adam and he haven't been getting along and that just makes my heart sink. I want the last couple of days to be good ones for both of them, so please pray that they get along a little bit better. I still have another week with Adam
