Glad your time went well Joanne. I sure hope you get AC tomorrow. Do you not have hot water either? This has probably been the worse time to not have AC. Bet you didn't want to leave State College!

I remember the spoon game- though I wasn't very good at it. I can imagine the servers face when you asked for 20 spoons! I'm sure that was a first for her!

Joanne, what a wonderful happy memory of your mom.  That's so cute!  Have a safe trip.  When does Kev leave for basic?

Lori, still waiting to hear about whether they will be deployed.  My son said yesterday that he didn't think they would be deployed, but on the Stennis group I read that there is an all hands meeting on Sunday.  So, maybe we will hear word after that.  If they are deployed, I will swim to Hawaii to get on that ship, if I have too, lol.

The drive from here to CO is about 25 hours, which is something we are used to doing.  We have been driving back and forth, a couple of times a year, from NM to MD since we had moved out there in 2005.  Now I just go out there to see my kids and this is home once again.  :)  We will stop overnight in Indiana and then stop overnight again in Iowa.  We will drive about 9 hours the first two days, with the last day being the short one at 7 hours.   I'm really looking forward to spending the time with my daughter as I've only seen her twice since last May when she moved to Hawaii.

I guess we can all think of a day in August for lunch.

Betsy- the Vinson had a TC from Hawaii for 4 days back to SD. Not something I wanted to do though- not to mention the cost of getting to Hawaii! I don't like confined spaces and my son had written to me and said health wise I probably wouldn't want to. He knows me so I listened! You should go if you have a chance. Those who went said it was quite an experience.

July is out for me to get together for a lunch unfortunately.

That's great Betsy that you will have your daughter closer than Pear Harbor! How long does it take to drive to Colorado?

Let us know soon as you get word from Adam.

Joanne- are you still alive in this heat?

Lori, you go girl on the 4.0!  That's fabulous!

Deneen, Wow, what an experience it must have been to be on the ship.  I would love to do that.  I'm hoping that my son's ship will do a Tiger Cruise after they are deployed.

Joanne, You poor thing, no AC.  :(  I do hear it's going to get a little cooler this weekend.  Happy Anniversary!

I'm hoping for another lunch soon.  Please don't go between July 14 and July 23, as I will be driving out to CO with my daughter that week.  Her Navy bf is getting out (his 6 years are up in Aug.) and they are moving there.  We are driving out early to find them an apartment.  I'm still not happy about her going to CO, but at least it's a lot closer than Pearl Harbor.   :)

We will hopefully hear something in the next couple of days about our sailor's deployment.  My fingers and toes are crossed that it won't be a long one.

Deneen- thank you- though compared to your class load I've not done that much! I've only got 12 credits so far. Also- you're a spring chicken!!! I was definitely the oldest in all my classes! Good for you taking summer classes- I'm adding more work to my schedule- it pays for the schooling!

What are you hoping to graduate in?

Joanne- oh my girl it is WAY too hot for no AC! Especially today- I can't even imagine sleeping in this heat. When will it be fixed?

Congrats on your coming up anniversary! It's been a year already? I remember when we were talking about it! Hopefully it will be cooler in PA when you go.

Betsy, the ship was/is so huge in real life. It's an aircraft carrier and watching that ship pull in was something to see! Paul wasn't manning the rails this time like he did when it pulled into Hawaii because he was working. So it wasn't until most people were off that I spotted him hauling in cables. He volunteered for that so he could be outside! The first sailors off the ship were the "first time dad's" and that was so sweet. Watching as these very young men hold their new babies--- well it brought tears to my eyes!

FInished with school. Kept my 4.0! No classes for the summer. No time and I need a break. It was so stressful towards the end of the semester with studying and research and writing papers. And also working. I'm just to old for all that!

When Paul was told about his deployment they had said it was going to be a 10 month one. Then they changed it back to the original 7. So who knows what Adam will end up with! The Vinson is going out for a short run and then it will be dry docked and refurbished. So Paul will be in SD for awhile. I would love to go back out but it's so expensive and I'm not sure when I'd have the time. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing come the fall and school.

I'm glad Adam changed his mind on the bike. Smart man! Wish Paul hadn't done it. But there is a "club" with some of the guys on his ship that go riding and plan activities for bike riding- guess he was talked into it. He sent me a pic of it. It's one of those fast ones. Great. I'm gonna pray that he stays safe and wait for him to go back out to sea!

Lori, Oh, I'm so jealous.  Your trip sounds so perfect!  I bet you had such butterflies in your stomach as you saw his ship approaching.  I can't even imagine how stupendous that must have felt.  I love the town of Coronado and the bridge, isn't is just awesome?  Did you get to take the ferry?

How was school?  Are you off from classes for the summer?

Adam's deployment may now only be a 4 month trip, Woohoo! They will actually find out hopefully some time this week or so.  They go out again for a month very soon, then come back for a month, then go out again for a month.  Ugh!  He said the rumor now is, the big D may not now come until the end of the year and it won't be as long as previously anticipated.

((Hugs)) on the motorcycle.  I can imagine your worry.  They do have to take a safety class on it, so that's good.  Adam took that class when he was in Pensacola and I think it was 2 days.  He was talking about buying one too, but he must have changed his mind because I haven't heard that talk in awhile now.

Hello to all! I've been away and soon as I got back it was back to work. Haven't had much time to check on this site.

Betsy- I was in awe as I got to the end of your post! WOW! That is the most awesome "surprise!" you could have gotten! Imagine those 2 keeping that secret! Glad you had a wonderful time with your son. Does he know yet about his deployment? After Paul's deployment I was hoping he would get leave but he doesn't. Won't see him now till maybe Dec. We got 3 days in SD with him.

Seeing the ship come in was amazing! What a sight that was! We got to the pier at 5:30am because we wanted to get over the Coronado bridge before rush hour. Good thing we did because there was a huge back up around 7am. The ship didn't actually pull in till 9:30am and Paul was on duty but he did get us on the ship around 1 and we were able to stay with him in his shop till 7pm so that was great.

San Diego is beautiful. He took us to La Jolla beach and the zoo [ very expensive- he got a 10% discount for us, he's free] and some of his favorite eating places. But before I knew it we had to leave. Now it will be months before I see him again.

Denee- you will love SD. It is expensive. When we were there last month the flowers were blooming everywhere and there is a lot to see. Congrats on your daughter getting married!

Maryland mom- I don't think I'd like that kind of surprise! But congrats to you as well!

I just found out my son bought a motorcycle! So he has a nice car AND a bike now. I was NOT a happy momma because I hate those things [ well I only hate them if it's one of my kids riding one]. He says "it's good on gas mom." Yea so is a bicycle! He's taking some kind of class that's mandatory. I think I will worry more about his being out on the road then when he was on deployment!

Deneen, have you been out to SD?  It's one of my favorite places.  Congrats on the wedding.
