Lori, I know exactly what you mean about the "oh wow, he's really going". ((Hugs)) I was telling another Navy mom that I kinda feel numb. Is that how you are feeling too? I have heard from other moms that their sailors were nervous, apprehensive and excited all at once about finally being on a ship. I'm sure that's probably what Paul is feeling now. I will keep him in my prayers.
Yes, I had heard that the Stennis was currently deployed, but I did find out that they are on the "back side" of the deployment now. I'm just praying that he will get to come home before going to WA
Betsy, just got a text from Paul. He is leaving Monday. They fly them out to Bahrain and then a military plane takes them out to the carrier. I knew this was coming- his leaving for a ship- but now it's becoming more of a "oh wow he's really going" kind of thing. The Stennis was just replaced by the Vinson out near Iran. That's what I read on fox news. They will do the same thing- fly him out to the ship as they are with Paul. When I texted Paul "are you ready?" he said he hoped so. So I texted back "I'm not."
Lori, I hope you have heard from Paul by now and that he is doing well and settling in on the ship. I noticed that about some of the ship groups because some of my friends tell me that they are pretty secretive.
My Adam just called me and told me that he now has verbal Orders for the John C. Stennis, based out of Bremerton, Washington. That's all he knows right now. I'm pretty sure that the Stennis is deployed right now, so I guess we will have to wait and see what happens next. He had said that wanted to get on a cruiser recently, but in the beginning of his A school he had said that he would like a carrier, so I'm sure he is ok with it.
Betsy, I'm waiting now to hear from him. He has been assigned to the Carl Vinson. I am a "friend" of the ship on FB. It's huge. What's interesting is on the Vinson N4M group the ladies are very cautious about saying where the ship is or what port it's going to. But on FB they mention it. I think that's odd.
I remember you mentioning that Adam is at Pensacola. I don't know how I forgot as my SIL is an "Adam" and he was stationed at Pensacola as an AT. Never went on a ship. I couldn't believe that! A sailor that never went on a ship! I give him a hard time about that! I hope your Adam will hear soon. The wait is hard. When Paul grad C school he was on hold for almost 3 months. And they really don't have much to do while they wait.
Lori, ((Hugs)) I guess by this time Paul has heard about his plans. I'll be praying for his safe journey. What ship is he on? I know that he is based out of SD, right?
My Adam is still in Pensacola and has been there for a year now. :( He was re-classed from an Aviation rate in April and didn't start his A school until early July. He graduated from all his training in mid Nov and still has no clue how long he will continue to be there. He did say that the class of CTT's that graduated directly before him are just now getting their Orders, so hopefully it won't be much longer.
Betsy, good to "see" you on here! Hope things have settled down in your home. Glad you had your son home for Christmas. Where is he at now? So does he think he'll have a long hold? The photo your niece took is great!
Paul will hear tomorrow for sure but he thinks he will be flown out on thurs to meet his ship in the middle east. I knew the day was coming but now that it's pretty much here.... sigh
Good Morning Maryland ladies! I've been away from the site for awhile because of family situations. Adam was home for Christmas and we had a really nice, but way too short, time together. He is still "holding" for Orders and I think he is getting pretty anxious to get started now. He graduated A school in Nov. and now they are saying that his rate (CTT) is "saturated" in the fleet, even though at the time that he chose the rate, it was considered "undermanned". My niece took my profile picture of Adam in Annapolis, btw and I love it. She is a photography major in college and hoping to become a fashion photographer. I hope you are all doing well.
Happy Birthday to your Jason! It's tough on us mom's as we watch our kids make their own decisions that we may not agree with. But in the end we just have to pray that they will make the right ones for them.
Hope everyone is doing well. Paul went back to SD yesterday and will find out on tuesday when the Navy is flying him out to meet his ship. Gulp.
Joanne that's great! This is probably a stupid ques- how does he get an email out on a below the water sub?
Soeacho- well congrats on your joining the Navy! I'm glad you found us and I hope your mom will join us on here. Besides the boot camp moms there might be a group for those leaving in Feb. Then once you know when your PIR is there will be a group for that. I would be more than happy to help her in anyway i can. My son has been in since 2010. Set your mom up on here and I can friend her and if she has any questions she doesn't feel comfortable sharing on a public site I can talk to her off it. I remember how it was when my son was leaving for bc.
