He's on the USS Carl Vinson. He just got his written orders today. I talked to him as I was driving home from my last class at college. I'm done till next semester- with a 4.0!!! I wish I could show my high school teachers that!!! Anyway sorry for the crowing- Paul said he he has his sea duty screening on thur and then we can book his flight for after that. I'm so excited he will be home and he doesn't need to report till the end of Jan! My world just looks a little brighter today!

What is your sons job Cindy?

Hi Patricia thanks for checking in here. We haven't "seen" you in awhile. Hope all is well.

We have a Dick's not far from us- that is another great suggestion. And the wall hooks. Thanks for coming through ladies. You have been so helpful I can't thank you enough. I'm praying that Paul gets word today. He said he doesn't want to call the detailer as he doesn't want to annoy him by asking. It has been a week since his verbals now and his orders were supposed to have been done a month ago. Things just move soooo slow!

Cindy, thank Paul for me. That is a great list he gave. The sleeping bag- that would be bulky. Paul said they are allowed to bring their 2 duffle bags on the ship and one pretty much has his uniforms. Would you ask your Paul if that's right?

Where can I find a "command" wall hook? The towel and pillow case is a great idea. What about a blanket? I had made him one of those tie fringe blankets out of fleece last Christmas that had a Navy theme. He left it here since he didn't want to take it to CA- no room. That would be another bulky thing though. I'm concerned if I get him much stuff he won't be able to take it and will leave it in his car when he gets back.

That makes perfect sense! Wow all of your kids are in the Navy! Guess you are an "old hand" at this! Have you heard from your son in bc yet? Is your husband in the Military as well? I have a lot of respect for you KLN for being a mom who has  all your kids in the services.

Hello.  I have:  oldest son is an officer and pilot, just returned from deployment to Japan; oldest daughter is a Navy civilian supervisor with Naval Reactors at the Washington Navy Yard in DC; second son is an IT civilian employee with Naval Reactors at the Washington Navy Yard; third son just started boot camp in Great Lakes!  Now you know why I picked "KidsLuvNavy" as my name!! :0)

Welcome KidsLuvnavy! Glad you found us. Tell us a bit about yourself. Do you have a son or daughter in the Navy?

Cindy- I ordered flip flops from Old Navy! Two pairs. I just talked to my Paul. I told him some of the things you had mentioned. Because of his job he said he will have a "shop" [?] which has a TV so he may be able to bring his PS3 but probably will wait till next deployment. I think I'll wait and see what his rack is like and then order the "rack pack."

Hi everyone.  Just wanted to say hello to Deneen B and also say how sorry I am about your mom.  I was one of the ladies you saw at the game Saturday.  It was nice meeting you.  Thanks for being there and spreading the word about Navy For Moms.

Good suggestions again Cindy. I'm going to see if I can even find flip flops. Maybe Old Navy online. Please ask Paul cause he would know. My Paul wouldn't have a clue. He just texted- no word today about his written orders. It's been a week since his verbals. I just want him HOME!

Oh- I forgot- what are some other things that your Paul found useful to have? I got a chap stick for Paul and black socks. Do they have to have a certain type of boxers or tee shirts?

Thanks Cindy. You are a wealth of info! What card did you get for Paul? It is hard to imagine the kind of days they have on a ship. Twelve +hour shifts? Ugh. Paul has grown soft from C school and now being on hold for so long. His school days were just a few hours. At the end only 3! And he's been sitting around so long now waiting. I am going back to that site and see if I can call them for more info on those rack things.
