I read the tribute the father made for the sailor who went missing. It made me cry. So sad. They had no body to bury. How could no one have seen him go over?

Cindy- hope all is going smoothly with your move.

Betsy- do you have a count for this Saturday?

Debbie, I also love the picture & the idea of the crabs for your son & other sailors.  I & my husband are native Marylanders with large families.  He is a recreational crabber.  We steam about a bushel every weekend from July through October.  I'm sure we will be doing the same as you did.  My son leaves for boot camp in 2 weeks.  He will be stationed in Connecticut.  Not too far for the crabs to make it.  My step son leaves for Marine's boot camp 3 weeks after that.  I'm sure we'll be making trips south & north with crabs next season!!

Debbie- are you able to make the lunch on the 6th?

Joanne- what about you?

I didn't even think about a cooler and ice- of course! I just kept picturing these crabs in a paper bag in your trunk!

Did you get any pics of the guys faces who have never had crabs before? It's a strange Maryland tradition I think [ not a marylander and I HATE crabs!!!!] and would be funny watching a bunch of guys whacking away at all those crabs!

Debbie- tell me you didn't drive all that way with those crabs in the car? I can't begin to imagine what the smell of baking crabs being in the car for hours would have been like!

I'm sure you had some very happy sailors though!

Welcome sheilamf!  I agree with the other moms - the boot camp and PIR (Pass in Review) websites are great.  My son, Joey, left for boot camp on 2/22/11 from Fort Meade and he now in nuke school in Charleston, SC.  Fort Meade was piloting a 'Welcome to the Military' presentation that was very helpful.  Here are a few websites they suggested for Marines: www.usmc-mccs.org and for parents www.MarineParents.org/www.Marineparentsunited.com.  They didn't recommend the N4M as it is not an official Navy website, but my son's recruiter told him about it.  Having the support from members of the Maryland Moms, bootcamp and PIR groups really helped me when Joey was in bootcamp.   Have a great weekend!

Sheila- 2 at once! That's a lot to take in at one time! Is there a similar site for the Marines like NM's? Sounds like your house is filled with energy right now! We have been around for awhile so you stop in as often or as little as you like ok?
