Hello Ladies,

I would be happy to host a packing party, the catch is.... I could only do it the weekend of 9/21-22.

Would that work?

Also, I live on the North Shore (Beverly) is that too out of the way?

Let me know what you think as I would be very happy to host.

If anyone wants to take a picture of their box before sending it, we can post them here - for posterity - and on MAS as well.  Moms like to see or hear what others do, it gives them ideas.

Thank you Nauset!  I've had such a crazy week.  I will get your pic to the PO today.  I've also been trying to find cardboard to protect it.  But somehow, someway it'll get mailed today.

Donna, I will put together a couple of boxes

Oh, almost forgot, if you want to share what you find to ship that would be great.  It helps inspire other moms!

Thank you everyone whose jumped in so far!  What we are able to do will really help the USS Preble adoption.  Now let's see if I answer everyone's questions!

Shipping of the boxes is between September 25-27.  That way everything will get there around the same time.

Box size - we usually use the large priority box from the post office.  You know the "if it fits, it ships" boxes.  Make sure you tape them up well and securely. When a ship gets a bunch of boxes they can be stacked or dumped and you don't want your contents to go everywhere & certainly not over the side!!!

If you are a member of Molly's Adopt a Sailor (aka MAS), then you know that the address is in the usual special place.  For others, the addy is in the group "MAS We Ship Love".  It is a private room and you need to request membership.  If you aren't sure you want to be a permanent part of MAS, send me a friend request and I will send you the addy in a PM.  We don't put addresses on public sites for security reasons.

As far as including a letter, card or note - we go by the fact that we know they will eat up and use up what we send but they will keep that letter (or picture a child has drawn) for months!!  So do include a little note.  We can't guarantee you'll get a response, but if you include your email addy you have a better chance of hearing from someone who received your package.

AND, IF you do get a note, we all share what we hear back with one another.  Just edit your note to comply with OPSEC.  You know the drill - no rank, no last name, nothing identifying them personally or where they are.  That is info they may share with you, but it simply canNOT be put in a note shared on the public site of N4M, whatever group you share it in.  If you do, you'll get in trouble.  Remember, we are using a site the Navy set up & it is monitored as we learned at our luncheon recently.  What you put out in public can effect your sailor's career - or lack of one.  So be careful.  If in doubt, ask one of the moms who've done this lots of times -- Dee, Johanna, Sheryl, me -- in a PM of course and only in a general way.

I think that covers everything.  If I missed your question, ask it again & I apologize for missing it.  It has been a very long day for me and while it is only 8:30p I'm ready to go to bed!!!

Thank you.  Here is something else I am involved in.  Last year we shipped 1500 care packages to troops overseas.  I participate in both the event on Nov 9 at Cape Cod Harley Davidson, and at the packing/shipping party on 11/23-24.

Hi MA Moms!  I would also like to put together a box or two but definitely need details, like the size of the box, where to mail it or drop it off, do we add a letter, etc?

Good morning, family.  I am fairly new to this, so not too familiar with the protocol of "adopting" sailors and packages, but I would love to do my part.  Please tell me, other than collecting/purchasing the goods, etc, how do I get the packages off to the sailors?  Is there a collection/drop off spot, or do we just ship them off?  Please advise, as I would love to adopt several.
