Just an FYI:  we are going to try to pack some boxes just for females since no one has picked up on that yet.

Come on Moms!  The packing party is a week from this Saturday!

Let's make this adoption ROCK!  We can show the country what a small state can do!!!

@ Buddy's Mom,

The only thing I know that is not allowed are anything but white sheets and pillowcases, and they are boring.  I'm going to go to Walgreens and see if I can get some good body and hand lotions.  They are having a buy one get one 50% off sale.  You can include hair clips, bands, etc.  The Navy does allow lipstick and nailpolish in very pale pink and nude shades.  Most commanders allow brighter colors for shore leave, but I don't know about the Iwo Jima.  I can try to find out.  Female razors, and even colored toothbrushes are great things to tuck in.  They like feminine note paper, writing paper/envelopes and journals.  If you look for anything that goes by size, probably mediums but that is just a guess.  Girlie socks are always fun.  And, of course they want snacks and toys like the guys.  Really anything on the wish list.  Feel free to have fun with this.

I'm excited that you may be coming!!!  Looking so forward to seeing you  <3

Just discovered a couple of things about this adoption.  First, they are looking for us to pack a box for an individual to open vs. a "Common" box for everyone to share in.  Altho, common boxes are welcome too.

Also, they have 100 female sailors on board.  No one has claimed any females specifically.  Maybe we can send out some female boxes with girly items included??  I'll be shopping in the next few days & I am thinking of going with picking up some female items and girlie things. (Just FYI)

What are you all thinking????

Coming:

Sheryl, Denise, Darlene, Johanna & me.  Also maybe Buddy's Mom.

Kathy (AO Mom), did you say yes?

Helen, can you make it?  Karina B?

Tami cannot make it, but she will be sending things along for us to pack!

OK, this is who I think we've heard from.  SHERYL, add anymore you know of either here or in the discussion.  Need to start going and picking up some boxes!

BTW, our supplies are starting to run a low on packing tape.  If anyone would like to bring that instead, let me know.

NOW, don't forget to bring a pic of your sailor and a snack to share if you are able.

SEE you one week from Saturday!!!  Can hardly wait to see you all again.

@ Buddy's Mom, just wondering (and really) hoping that you and your son's godmother will be at our packing party??   Please do come, both of you!  We are anxious to meet our new Navy Mommas, godmothers, grandmothers, aunts, whomever!

Leave us a message or get in touch with Sheryl or me for directions.  I just sent you a friend request so you can reach me and I can privately forward info to you.

Please come ...  :)

Hi Buddy's Mom!  And welcome!

Please do plan to come to the packing party.  Everything that is packed and sent from all across the country is sent in the names of all the Adopt a Sailor Moms.  It isn't about what you can purchase - we all have times when our resources are low - but one thing you can do & I really hope you will take me up on this.  If you read the discussion above "August 2012 Packing Party -- USS Iwo Jima, you will see that one thing they would like is mail!  Seriously.  There are always service men and women who get NO mail at all.  So if you can write some notes that we can include in the boxes that would be great, no more than great, it would be wonderful!!

If you have trouble getting started, take a walk and then write a note about what you see.  Write about what you do.  Just be careful, nothing too personal.  Use your email address for them to get in touch with you - can't guarantee a response, but you just might get an email over a letter.  And, of course, then you'll need to post it here to share with everyone.

I'm looking forward to meeting you.  Oh, and BTW, try to bring a picture of your sailor along.  It is nice to get to see one another's sons and daughters.

And, yes, godmothers are more than welcome!  The more Mommas the better!

Hugs to you and we'll see you soon.
