Nighty-nite everyone! I'm shutting off this computer because I still have to finish putting things in an overnight bag. Plus I have to shower with this awful smelling disinfectant and wash my hair tonight + repeat the whole thing tomorrow AM including the hair wash. Good grief, things are starting to really get on my last nerve so it really is time to go.
Talk to you all soon. Keep well.
Hugs to you all,
Donna
That sounds great! I'd love to meet other moms in our area - for packing party or whatever. Yes, Jenn, hopefully we will be at the same PIR. My son's recruiter tells us he can't give us ANY information - mailing address or expected PIR. My best guess is 5/25 or 6/1. I'm sure once it gets closer, I'll be able to connect with others better. If you all decide to do a get together in May - or sooner - just PM me and I'll get you my phone number so we can connect. Keep smiling and remember, we should see those SR's soon! Ann-Marie
Welcome Ann-Marie. WooRah. Someone in Worcester County!!! Things seem kind of quiet in here right now. I'm sorry for that. If you've read back you will see that I'll be out of the loop for a while, but there are some great ladies here who can answer lots of questions: Denise (Dee), Jennifer, Tami, Kathy (AO Mom), Helen Jess' mom, Becky Cox ... [I'm drawing blanks because I'm hurrying]!!
Come on MA Moms help these 2 new members out!!
@ Ann-Marie, I'm in Bristol County too. Most of our get-togethers are for packing parties. We gather our items, pack, have goodies to snack on, coffe & tea, lots of chatting and laughing. I'm thinking of having a packing party in May. I may not have my driving rights back, but you all can come here. BUT, if someone else wants to do something sooner or do May, I'll back out until later.
Anyway, Ann-Marie, we try to have 3-4 packing parties in a year. Mainly because many of our Moms are stretched in so many ways it is hard to get things and people together.
Talk to you soon!
Hugs,
Donna
Hi Ann-Marie, I am in Bristol county. My daughter arrived at GL on 4/2, and her recruiter gave me her ship and division yesterday. Maybe will will both be at PIR together.
Hi Everyone: My name is Ann-Marie and I live in Lancaster, MA (Worcester county). My son Josh (age 20) arrived at bootcamp in Great Lakes on 3/29. We have only received the 30-second call the first night and then we got his "box" on 4/3 Tuesday. Still waiting to get a letter telling us his PIR date. We are very proud and very excited for him. I think I'm strange as I haven't cried yet! Maybe I'm holding it all in or maybe I'm really happy for him, I don't know. The recruiter has been somewhat helpful but claims he cannot even give us a temporary mailing address - I'm writing letters and holding them until I get the PIR letter with Josh's address. I'd love to meet some of you locally, Please let me know if/when you are getting together. My best guess for Josh's PIR is either 5/25 or 6/1. Hopefully I can meet some of you before then! Ann-Marie
Good luck with your surgery!! My daughter got married in October, didn't tell me until she and her husband enlisted. They are both at bootcamp now.. :/ Thank you for being so kind.. This really is a wonderful, welcoming place..
Jenn
Jenn I am glad it has been helpful. I know it was for me. I found N4M right before my son's first deployment which came 2 months after his wedding!! Talk about stress. Anyway, I've been with it ever since. I'll PM you my email addy so you can always reach me.
Monday I am having my right knee replaced so I won't be on much for a while. Only because of no access to a computer! But I've already informed my husband and son they have to check all my emails for IMPORTANT items like MA Moms, Molly's Moms, anything with a 'military-appearing' email address. That is IF I have to go to a rehab facility first before coming home. You should have seen their eyes roll at the list! LOL I think my son is going to opt out by offering to bring me his laptop to borrow so I can check for myself. But, I don't want to keep it with me -- things tend to be "misplaced". I know I worked in rehab for 6 yrs as a nurse and have had to deal with these 'missing items'. Don't want it to be me!
Thank you for the warm welcome Donna. This place has been a lifesaver for me. :)
You really aren't too, too far from me. (I looked at your page.) I live in Plainville - so pretty close. I'm so glad you got the call. It is hard to wait for something you know is coming, but you don't know when. At least it is for me. Hopefully you got a good night's rest.
Our last packing party for the troops was in Feb., a really quick one planned to say good-bye to one of our members who moved to Buffalo, but she is still a member here. (Hi Sheryl!)
I'm hoping we can pull off a packing party in May before things get really hectic with end of the school year activities & graduation events. I've been running some things thru my head but that's as far as I have gotten. Maybe someone else is also doing some thinking?
On Monday I am having knee replacement surgery (I fell just before Christmas running up some stairs. I know Moms always say don't run on the stairs ... oh well.) Once the surgery is done and I get into my physical therapy schedule I'll know better what I am going to be able to do.
In the meantime just jump in to N4M, the water is great!! A number of us here are also members of Molly's Adopt A Sailor. That is one group that I highly recommend. The water (& welcome) is always nice and warm in that group!!
Talk to you soon.
She is a doll, I bet your son is counting the minutes until he can see her. I got the call ten minutes ago. After boot camp, she will head to San Antonio for A school. Her husband is also at bootcamp right now, he went last week. It has been hectic to say the least. I am hoping to finally get some sleep.. :) I am in Southeastern Mass.
