Depending on the # of adoptees, I think we are set w/hot chocolate. Lisa (who has a new name, but I'll let her tell!!!) is taking care of candy canes. If someone has already bought some, bring them along. We'll tie bows on them to make them a festive treat!
We still need pre-packaged treats and disposable cups that can hold hot drinks & scotch tape. I've got ribbon, some packing tape, customs forms, labels and boxes. The Plainville PO gave me enough boxes to probably get us thru 2 more adoptions after this one!!
We lost power on Sat. but it was back on at 5a today. I don't know why or how they got to us, but I am thankful. Once again I had just done my big food shopping. Following Irene I lost everything and I was just praying it wouldn't happen again.
There are trees down everywhere. One just missed our house - the corner where our bedroom is. It woke up my hubby, but I slept right thru everything! When I went to get the mail today I saw one tree completely uprooted. The roots must have been over 6' across! It is incredible how many were lost.
Sorry you won't be with us Jennifer! We'll really miss you. Next time.
I haven't heard from Anne Marie lately. Her son has a X-country meet the same day. She had said she was going to ship things to me, but I haven't heard since before the storm. She also said she hoped it MIGHT be possible to also make the packing party. I'm certain she will be able to fill you in on her plans.
Hey, any more out there going to come or can't come to the packing party??? Let us know so we can plan on #'s. Come regardless and have some fun - there will be plenty to do without staying away because of finances! REALLY.
Remember, the song (I think on a commercial) -- "Let's get together and have some fun!"
Yeah, we're having a party!! I LOVE our packing parties.
Jennifer, check with anneooh, I think you 2 must be fairly close to each other.
I've received some PMs. If everyone agrees - let's plan to do hot chocolate w/marshmallows, small candy canes, disposable cups for hot liquids (be as festive as you want) and pre-packaged sweet treats (whatever you'd like to have with hot chocolate yourself). And, of course, mail - lots and lots of mail. If you can write notes, cards, holiday cards ahead of time that will be best. I have packing tape left over from other parties, but we could use some clear packing tape for postage and over labels (MAS shipping labels, that is). If anyone wants to pick up a some scotch tape. I have plenty of ribbon to tie things ups and make them look festive.
Also, we usually bring something to snack on while we work and pack (& laugh and talk)!! If you are able to bring something that is fine, but don't worry if you can't - seems like we always have more than enough!
@ Anne Marie, Lisa, Laura - I can't wait to meet you IRL. I'm so excited!!
Hi ladies (on this rainy day),
I am planning on attending. What do I need to bring? Can't wait to meet all!
Anne Marie
OK Moms, we are having a party. It'll be in Milford (is that right Helen). Date to be determined when Helen checks the schedule at her church so we have some room to pack.
We have to decide what to do so we can get busy.
1) We could do some small boxes for the Ingraham (Oct.'s adoptees)
2) We could wait for Nov.'s adoptees to be announced.
3) OR, we could come up with something on our own. Oct.'s group has their stockings. I don't know if the MoM will want stockings for her group or not.
Any thoughts?
I mentionned a while back that our family always has hot chocolate w/marshmallows (of course) and a small candy cane hung into the cup to add a peppermint flavor. Maybe we could do something like that and include some special sweet treats? We'd need to get at least enough packs of hot choc. for 2 a piece, small candy canes (the ones that come in a box of 50 or so), some hot disposable cups & stirrers. We could attach a candy cane to each pack w/instructions and just tie a ribbon around each to make it look festive. What do you think? It wouldn't be too expensive and would be completely different.
Someone have another favorite family tradition we could consider doing?
Let's get some talking going here... I'm excited. I may have to look for some Christmas music!!
