I don't know for sure yet what is happening with a Nov. adoption. We can combine and do something for both if we'd like.  We just have to let the October Mom of the Month know how many packages will be sent for Christmas on the Ingraham.

Helen, I was wondering, do you think we could possibly have a packing party at up your way using a room in your church??  Just a thought, and please feel free to say no, it is too much.

Jennifer and Helen, of course you can stay part of this group.  Once a Navy Mom always a Navy Mom I say!!  You may be out, but you still understand like no one else can the unique feeling that Moms with children in the military have.  I just had a huge disagreement with my brothers and sister about this very thing. They told me it would be good for me to work on my parents' former home because it will distract me so I won't think about Matthew.  Well .... I may have come down a little hard, but I don't care. They had better never suggest such a thing again to me.  I told them when/if ever their child is in the military then they will understand and then and only then can they offer me advice on not thinking about him. What dummies they are!  How can you not think of your own flesh and blood far from home and in harm's way?  Maybe they'll be so mad they won't want me helping clean the house????  :-)  Now that is a thought.

OK, I got us an answer.  We are shipping Christmas in November too.  So that raises the question again --- shall we do a packing party for Christmas?  Yes or No.

There was some talk of a get-together in Nov. (Tami do you remember this from the party at your house?  Don't want to name names here, but does the person still want to do something at her home?)  Perhaps we could combine a "time out for Mommas" with a packing party?

Comment by Proud Navy/NYPD Mom (Donna) on October 15, 2011 at 12:45pm

I wanted to do one at the beginning of Nov., but that is after the scheduled shipping schedule.  I don't mind having people come here if they don't mind the travel.  At first my husband said no, it was too much for me.  But, he's re-thinking his fast response so maybe if I get some local help it will work.  I saw the shipping schedule the Navy put out.  I don't see why we couldn't do something in November, according to that schedule we would have until mid-Nov. at least for priority shipping to reach their destination.

Thanks for the good thoughts for better days.  Today is just tough.  I guess I am just plain scared.  Too many things landed on me this week and I suppose I'm simply buckling under the weight of everything and the decisions that need making.  Thanks for caring.

HUGS to you!

Well, I guess we won't do a packing party for the holidays.  If anyone wants to get involved individually just check out Molly's Adopt A Sailor.

We got Matthew's deployment addy this AM.  Guess that means he will be leaving soon.  Why is it that the Navy always waits til the last minute to tell them and us that they are leaving?  I really hate this part.  I think I'll go have a cup of tea and a pity party.  It has been one awful week for me all the way around and this is just the last straw!

Jennifer -- puppies, how exciting!!  Your dogs are so beautiful. When Andrew saw 2 of yours after the packing party, he was so anxious to get one.  But we really don't have that kind of room - indoors or out.

Dee -- Welcome Home!  Can you believe we are talking about a trip like this?  I'm not getting any support from my husband or Andrew (haven't even mentionned it to Matthew!).  I guess I figure I shouldn't put this on his mind while he is deploying.  Do you think they sell postcards there?  That might be a fun & surprising way to let him know what I'm up to!  Would you go? At some point, Molly will have to decide who goes and who can't - so why not put your name into the mix. Can you imagine how much fun we'd have if we both got to go??  Come on, at least give it serious consideration ~ pleeeeeease!

No date yet.  No place confirmed yet either.  I'll do it, but I will try to find a place to have it where we can spread out and have a bit more room = lots more fun.  But I thought I'd wait and see who else might like to do it.

I would LOVE to see a packing party down the Cape ~~ hint, hint, hint to anyone down that way. Maybe another one more centrally located.  It is hard for so many to travel, altho, Jennifer you are terrific, you travel everywhere & I appreciate it and love you for being so willing.

HOW ABOUT SOME OF YOU NEW MOMS???  Yes, YOU.  It isn't hard and you'll get to meet a bunch of very nice Navy Moms...

Alright ladies.  The plans for Christmas are much simpler than we've done before. There are 219 sailors and 10 officers on this frigate. This is what the MoM is planning:

1 sm box for each sailor to contain gift item, candy... movie, puzzle book, think small!

1 stocking per sailor - the small ones.  These are just a token and 1 candy cane in each stocking.

Unused Holiday cards that they can send to their own families

Holiday decorations

Plus of course, mail and pictures from children!!

Then we can combine the small boxes into a larger one.

The stockings & candy canes, mail, decorations will go in their own boxes labeled "ALL" and "Do Not Open...".

If we do get unused Holiday cards, they will also go in a box of their own so that the POC will open them right away and make them available for the sailors to write, address and send to their friends at home.

I also had one thought no one else suggested.  In our family it is a tradition after our meal to have a cup of hot chocolate with a small candy cane hung over the side of the cup into the chocolate to give it a peppermint flavor.  What do you think?  Could we do this maybe instead of something else on the list -- you know, just to be different from all the others??

We could ask RI Moms to help us get enough packets of hot chocolate and then we just need the little candy canes when they come out.  Let's get talking and planning here, time is a-wastin' !!!!!

PS  Welcome home (?) Dee!!

Hi Anne Marie!  Welcome aboard!  Just in the beginning of getting organized, but I will definitely keep you in the loop.  I think but I'm not certain that RI may be having their first ever packing party.  I'll definitely let you know what I hear.

MA Navy Moms don't do adoptions every month, but we do try to do 3-4 per year.  We adopt whomever Molly's Adopt A Sailor has chosen and go from there.  If you've looked at the MAS page you can see there's been a lot of discussion going on.  I'm trying to get a handle on exactly what is what.  If you figure it out first, make sure to let ME know!!  lol  I just posted a request for more definitive plans.  We'll see what the answers are and then we can make our plans from there.  Talk to you again real soon.

And, again, welcome!

Hi again,

I also wanted to let you know that I have a second home in Charlestown, RI, so I can attend any packing party that may be organized there as well.  I am not currently on FB.

Thanks
