Packing Party 8/27/11: Elaine & Donna
Packing Party 8/27/11: Lauren, Elaine, Liz, Megan & Donna
FYI - Packing Party for today is still going to happen. In case anyone came on here looking for info. Come on over to Tami's in Lowell.
We will be smart, tho. I'm leaving my husband in charge of weather watching since I think I'm the most south. If it even starts getting dark, rainy or windy he will call me and we'll break-up the party and head for home.
Hey they don't call us "hardy New Englanders for nothing"!!!!
No matter what, Helen, you will always be a part of this group! MIL is just as important. I'm so sorry Jess is having a hard time. I hope that she is getting the help that she needs. There's a lot going on in your family right now & her worry about her Mom and Dad likely doesn't help.
Let us know if a special box or card from some MA Moms would help. I'd love to put together a small box for her. I'll email you about it, or you can catch me first.
I have to leave in about 30 min. for another appt. Then race around Attleboro and pick up xray and MRI films for my appt. on Friday. I told my hubby, Sept. 1st I'm taking a mini-vacation!!!
Michelle, sorry you can't make the party in Brockton. I'm going to Lowell also, perhaps we can arrange to car pool? Think about it & let me know if you'd like to do that.
I make out a list of the items that I need/want for the sailors and then hand them out to family, friends, neighbors, anyone and everyone.
Our theme is "A Picnic in Central Park." I've bought cheese & cracker sticks; cheese & pretzel sticks, candy, individual wrapped cookies (5 to a container), beef jerky, beef jerky and cheese (someone told me these are great, carmel popcorn (which may be messy but it is sooo good), rubber balls to throw around, paddles w/rubber balls attached by elastic, writing paper, candy, some fun colored paper plate & napkins, Crystal Light packs for putting in bottles of water; coloring books & crayons, puzzle books; and, jump ropes. Also had magazines and summer reading paperback books donated. I think Denise also has a good list in the discussion. We are also waiting on the donation from Reebok of women's exercise clothing. We will want to make special boxes for them - deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner those types of items and also feminine hygiene items. I will send you a friend message so that I can PM you my address, etc.
Have a good time in RI!! The Moms there want help coordinating a packing party (their first) so there may be another choice of date for you!!
I'm so thankful for all the MA Moms who are helping me. I was concerned about accepting being Mom of the Month for Molly's Adopt a Sailor. Should have known that you can always count on Navy mommas to have your back! :)
Won't be able to buy the fabric until later this week, the owner is off for a few days, but hopefully Thurs or Fri. In case anyone doesn't know about this fabric. It is being paid for by the group Molly's Adopt a Sailor and is for Navy Moms who do not have fabric or can't afford to buy fabric but want to attend the pillowcase benefit on August 21.
Please indicate if you are coming by going to the 'Events' tab at the top of the page and finding the Community Charity Sewing Event and then I hope you are clicking "YES"...
You don't have to be able to sew to attend. We need people who can sew, but also people to cut fabric & pin it for the sewing, pressing seams and trimming threads. A job for everyone who wants to come!
Welcome Michelle! Nice to meet you. You've joined us at a busy fun time!!! We are getting ready to have 2 different packing parties and a benefit to package up items to send to the Shadowhawks on the USS Bush. There is a discussion above 'Mass August Packing Parties'. I hope you will check out what is going on there and consider joining us. It is always fun to meet fellow Navy Moms. The benefit is being sponsored by a local quilting/fabric shop and they are going to teach us how to make pillowcases to send to our adoptees. It makes for a nice personal touch & a gift that lasts.
After you have had a chance to look things over, ask questions and we'll try to get you answers. We always have a good time at our parties. Don't worry they are never so large that you can't meet people and talk and laugh while fixing packages! (We also usually have great snacks... ;-)
