Happy Fourth of July, everybody! Have a good day and safe celebrations! God bless our children and those serving with them. And, God bless the USA!
AND, FINALLY ... DON'T FORGET TO VOTE FOR SPECIAL HUGS IN THE PEPSI REFRESH CHALLENGE!! You can use your power votes (the code under the yellow caps on Pepsi products, or the code inside the specially marked cases of cans of Pepsi).
We are going for $50K again! Need to win to keep having our postage paid for when we have a packing party...
You can vote 3 ways (& you'll get one vote for Special Hugs each time!!): Sign on using your email address, through FB, or by texting. Text 107637 to Pepsi (73774).
Come on everybody let's knock this one out of the park!
BTW, you can use any email addy you want, if you have a work and home addresses you can vote using both. My hubby said I could use his email addy so that helps.
AND DON'T FORGET TO VOTE EVERYDAY. We are only in this for the month of July, so we win now or we are out of luck.
BTW, I finally got thru to the Lt. Cmdr. in charge of Navy Week at the Big E. Well, partly thru! She is in Chicago for their Navy week, so I left another message. Maybe I should try emailing her?
Just so you know, I "infiltrated" the RI Navy Moms group (since I live so close to the RI border). There are some Navy Moms there who will be coming to the Charity Sewing Event to benefit MAS & they would be interested in getting together with us. And, some are interested in helping out if we can gain a foothold on a presence at the Big E.
Jennifer, maybe you can guide me on that one. Is there someone other than the Navy contact that needs to be contacted?
ANYBODY live near the coast or near/on the Cape??? Looking to have a fun event near the end of the summer. That is all I want to say until I hear from SOMEONE ... ANYONE. Send me a PM & I'll fill you in. For anyone new here, you may have to "make friends" first.
ANNOUNCEMENT: The community charity sewing event to benefit Molly's Adopt a Sailor has made it to the calendar. Please mark the date & plan to be there. RI Navy Moms are planning to come, so there will be new people to meet.
AUGUST 21 from 12:30-4:30PM at Quilter's Stash, 560 Kelley Blvd. (Rte. 152), N. Attleboro, MA 02760.
If you have fabric of your own, you are welcome to bring it with you. You do not have to buy their fabric. "Molly's" will be purchasing fabric for any Navy Mom who wants to come but needs fabric! So don't let that stop you. If you don't sew, we need people who are willing to cut the fabric, press seams & trim threads. Literally something for everyone!
If you have a portable sewing machine, please plan to bring it with you. The shop has a limited number of machines we can use, but the more sewing machines, the more pc's will be made!
Dana just posted this on Molly's page. An email from the POC on the USS Higgins! It was so good I copied it so you all could read it. They had received 12 boxes and were, as Dana says, "Over the moon" with 12. Well now they are up to 32. FYI, 125 boxes were sent from packing parties plus other Moms send 1 or 2 on their own if they can't get to a party. So they haven't received even half of what was sent yet. This is the very best part of having packing parties, waiting for the response... Enjoy Dana's email!
Just in******
Hello Dana,
Thank you so much for the pictures. We have just begun to receive more mail – about 20 boxes arrived over the weekend from Molly’s Adopt-a-Sailor. Also, we are scheduled to get another shipment of mail this week.
I cannot tell you enough how excited our crew is to get mail. Plus, they keep asking me why I am getting so much here recently, and I keep telling them a nice surprise is coming for everyone very soon.
It is an honor to serve the sailors onboard the great USS Higgins, and I am thankful to have the support of your wonderful ministry to help brighten their day. May God continue to bless you abundantly.
(POC Higgins)
(Fun, fun, fun...I sent pictures of the boxes with the MAS labels and the Admiral packing with Molly. He he he...we can feel the excitement brewing!!! This is the best part...yeah!)
Founder's Day was a huge wash-out with all the rain for people setting things up. At the last minute they said MA Navy Moms couldn't have the space. Others were already signed up from months ago to do "support the troops" activities & it wouldn't be convenient for me to bring things at such a late date. Well, I walked the entire ballfield (in rain that was so hard water was literally running off my bangs and into my eyes!!) And, there was not one group set up in support of the troops. Quite a number of empty tables though. I wished I'd put everything into the trunk of my car, I would have become a squatter and just claimed an unused table for writing cards.
They won't catch me unprepared next year!! This MA Navy momma is gonna be in their faces at the first mention of Founder's Day...
CALLING ALL MA NAVY MOMS IN THE FOXBORO AREA. I got a phone call yesterday from the Veterans' Affairs person for the town and was invited to come to Founder's Day and set up an area dedicated to MA Navy Moms and the work we do as a group & with Molly's Adopt A Sailor.
Of course, I said yes. We will go simple. I'm just planning on setting up a small area where people can write cards or notes & kids can draw pictures for our wounded patients at Dwyer (like a MASH) in A-stan. Anyone who wants to come and help -- come on down to the fields. No need to contact me unless you want to ... always ready to chat! I will be there until the end, or I run out of materials! Should be a really nice day too. Fireworks at night, so it is a good family day!!
Jeanne 778, my son is stationed out of Groton too!! Only he was in Newport this week-end. Getting ready for deployment. We will have to get together at some point to talk (soon)... I'm glad you are OK, but sorry for your son's home. Everyone there OK?
goMahvelous, so, soooo glad to hear you are ok. I've been worrying about you!
So, is everyone accounted for in this group now?
