Has anyone checked out Molly's Adopt A Sailor?? This month the adoptees are the sailors on board the USS Higgins. The theme is summer/water fun. By the time they start receiving our packages (shipping is the end of May) they will be getting ready for their steel beach party. I thought people could either pick up the usual items that they always need - deodorant, shower gels, shampoo, baby wipes, puzzle books, writing materials, well you know... That could be one kind of box to pack. The other could be items for their party - beach towels, squirt guns, beach balls, etc. There is a longer list on Molly's. If you still need ideas you can check in with me, or reach thru some of the postings on Molly's. We've also discovered that it is sometimes much cheaper to send in regular boxes rather than the priority ones the USPS gives us; ie, if things are light we may fit more into a regular box and the cost is less. So if people have or can get some medium - small. plain brown boxes please bring them along.
The place may be changed, so keep an eye on this page for complete details! We'll let you know soon.
Hi Everybody! Just popped in again. I would like to have a packing party at my house on either Sat., 5/21, or Sun., 5/22. Whichever day is the most convenient for anyone interested. I live in Plainville - not far from Rtes. 95, 495 and a couple miles down Rte. 1 from Gillette Stadium.
I was thinking we could adopt the USS Higgins (Molly's... adoptees of the month) and go with the summer fun theme.
If you aren't a member of Molly's Adopt A Sailor. Join. They are a terrific group and very active. Look at the discussion "Hey in May" by Dana H. - that is the group of the month. We could have a lot of fun with this one I think.
Let me know if you could come and which day you would prefer. Even if it is only 3 or 4 of us, let's plan to get together!!! We haven't been together since we were at Tami's!
Hi goMahvelous! Nice to meet you. A packing party is when a group of Moms get together after gathering (either by buying or getting donations) items that are recommended for the adoptees of the month (normally via Molly's Adopt A Sailor). We've gathered in private homes and at Bertucci's. Then we pack packages with a variety of items in how ever many we can, include notes/cards as many as possible, fill out the forms & get them ready for shipping. If we do it on our own, we have to pay the shipping costs ourselves. If we do it for the adoptees of the month of Molly's Adopt A Sailor AND if there is grant money still available the organization (MAS) pays the cost to ship. I've loved the ones we've had so far. It is a great chance to be with fellow Navy Moms! It builds relationships & really no one else understands your sometimes topsy-turvy emotions about your child than another Navy Mom. I love everyone of the Navy Moms I've met and some I only know by their comments posted here. They have been a source of inspiration and really helped me over rocky times.
Have you seen this? It has been floating around the internet, but no one is claiming ownership of it, so I share it with you all here.
NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP,ONE LESS TERRORIST THIS WORLD DOES KEEP...
WITH ALL MY HEART I GIVE MY THANKS,TO THOSE IN UNIFORM REGARDLESS OF RANK..
YOU SERVE OUR COUNTRY AND SERVE IT WELL,WITH HUMBLE HEARTS,AND STORIES TO TELL..
SO AS I REST MY WEARY EYES, WHILE FREEDOM RINGS AND OUR FLAGS STILL FLIES...
YOU GIVE YOUR ALL, DO WHAT YOU MUST; WITH GOD WE LIVE AND IN GOD WE TRUST.... AMEN
May's adoption has been announced. It is the USS Higgins. Besides the usual items they always could use, the 'theme' for this shipping is summertime things. I heard they will be having a steel beach party soon, so people are planning on shipping beach towels, squirt guns, even little blow-up kiddie swimming pools!!
Sounds like fun.
Anyone interested in being hostess of a packing party? I'll be glad to help and will certainly be there. Just leave a post and everyone can jump in from there.
Just came to peek in. Make sure I'm not missing anything! :)
Any plans on a packing party?? Just wondering.
I did talk to Sue (the fabric lady). I swear she means well, but she is so disorganized! I don't know how in the world she runs that shop!! I will keep you informed of what the plans are for the charity event. I REALLY hope that you all will plan to come, even if you don't sew. You can always cut fabric or iron what has been sewn. It won't make much of a statement for us as MA Navy Moms if the event held to benefit us and our efforts has no attendees from the group. PLEASE...
Hey, here's an idea: we can go out and have fun together afterwards! There is a Cracker Barrel just down the street and then you can jump on the highway and head home.
Something to think about.
Hi Ladies! I'm so sorry i havent been on for about a month or more. Its been so busy with the kids, spring sports , and the girl scout troop has been busy with some extra meetings planning for our neighborhood camporee. Some of you have met the girls. They are cooking & serving the Saturday dinner for about 200 girls and their leaders. April & May are so busy things don't quiet down around here until June.
Oh Donna, I just read your post.:( Your so good with everything that goes with with the Navy Mom groups. Your support, knowledge & motivation has really been inspiring. Ive only been a member for a little over a year and I know you have been dedicated and work so hard. I have learned alot and appreciate the wonderful things you have done. Please take care of yourself and enjoy that beautiful grandaughter.
