Sounds like a great day for many!

Welcome Theresa, like you - former Michigander but it will always be home and I am hoping to make it back for the gathering in Frankenmuth in June :-D

Marianne - I sent you a note about katie's new ship, etc. Sasebo is beautiful and I know a few others on the ship...it's a long way from home but it's a great place.

Sheri, sounds like Sarah is off to a great start - congrats to her on passing that fitness test!

Joyce and Lori...are you doing okay so far with your recruits at boot camp? It gets easier once their letters start arriving.

I wish I'd get a letter, or a phone call or an email from my son! He hit the one year anniversary mark last week with the Navy and he has been great all year about calling/texting/mailing but he is in C school now and is in classes until midnight and we just don't hear from him as much...got spoiled while he was in A school! He did call long enough today to say...call you this weekend!

Katie called tonight to tell me that she will be stationed on the USS Essex out of Sasebo, Japan. She is excited...Japan was #3 on her 'dream list' after San Diego (#1) and Pearl Harbor! Not sure when she will be leaving yet. Katie is in Mod 6 of her DC training at A school.

Wow, Uli - that's the ticket! Definitely during the rabbit ear days!!

Joyce - which recruiter office did your son work with? My nephew (last year) left out of Lansing, they also went by bus. One of my friends here in GA had a son that reported yesterday too - she already has received his address and division. He will be in division 164 and they will graduate on April 17th. I suspect your son will grad the same date. She is going to set up a group today with that PIR date. If you have any questions let us know. Tomorrow marks our son's 1st anniversary with the Navy. He was division 161 last year - they recycle the division # each year.

Bill Kennedy was older than dirt but had some great movies and they were perfect on a cold nasty day. We just unofficially started referring to them as "Bill Kennedy" days. Wow, haven't heard of the Ghoul in years!!!

Everyone seems to be missing our sailors again, well it's been a couple of months since Christmas for those that had that luxury. It's just weird in our house this week, our sailor turned 22 yesterday, hardly a baby but it is his first birthday away from home and on Thursday - he will mark his one year anniversary with the Navy...that sure went by fast!

Wow - sounds like what we used to call "Bill kennedy" day! Bundle up and watch an old movie! Does anyone else remember Bill kennedy ...or am I dating myself?!!!

Joyce, My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know exactly what you are going through. My son didn't tell me that we could go to Lansing to watch them be sworn in, but I guess that was a good thing since I would have bawled my head off. I cried so hard when Allen left, but only after he walked out the door. He told me not to cry, but I am very emotional and still cry when I think about him being gone. He is so mature and able to take care of himself now. It is amazing to see them grow & mature. Allen has been in the Navy for 1 1/2 yrs now and it is getting easier to deal with, but I still miss him. You will make it through all of this! We all do, what choice to we have? My best to you and Donnie. Penny is so right! Everyone at this website it so awesome and supportive. She made it through and she was having a really tough time too.

Penny, you sound so good! I am so happy that things have gotten so much better for you!

God Bless you all!

Our son had his wisdom teeth removed before boot camp ...the money we could have saved!!! LOL However my old Navy sailor hubby had his all removed in boot camp...a couple of years ago our dentist informed him...he needed them out again............we did not think that was medically possible (?)
