On Thanksgiving they have adopt a sailor - I didn't hear the final plans for my daughter. If one of Katie's shipmates parents do come, they were planning to adopt her, otherwise it would be with a church family.

I'm sure someone on this site has gone thru Thanksgiving and Christmas in bootacmp like your daughter will be. We are wondering if she will be able to have time off from 'A' school to be with us for Christmas....her birthday is just days before Christmas as well.

NavyMomK9 - ohhhhhh, you make it reality! For lots of moms here, this will be their first Christmas without their sailor or in many cases they may get leave...this year. I was a Navy wife that lived over seas for many years and coming home to our families in Michigan just was not a feasible option. My mother always did her best to make our holidays special in spite of the difference and those sailors that were not taking leave - we always had big holiday gatherings at our house in Japan so they felt like they had a home for the holidays. Our shipmates became our families especially for the holidays.

The shoe is now on the other foot for us - our first born is a Sailor now, we will be able to treasure him this Christmas but know next year...he could be anywheres. It's not easy being Navy family - especially during the holidays.

Hi Ladies, some of us have been around here long enough to remember the promotion that Build-A-Sign ran that offered a FREE banner for your sailor. They provided 10,000 of them for just the cost of shipping ($10). We were lucky to get one (maybe someday I'll get to use it!!!) but I just found out in honor of Veteran's Day they are providing 20,000 banners just for the cost of shipping. This are nicely done and can be reused over and over again depending on what message you have put on them. If you would like one, I would encourage you to order them soon as they will go quickly.

Here's the info for you...
Go to www.buildasign.com/troops and order a free banner. Excellent quality, shipping charges were about $10. I believe on their website they have them priced at $65, I should our banner to a sign maker and he said locally they are charging $100 for that size banner.

Hi everyone, my name is Cathie and I live in the Grand Rapids area. My son, Troy, has been in the Navy 4 1/2 yrs. He is aircrew and is currently stationed in TX. He recently returned from his second deployment and was able to come home on leave for a couple of weeks. I am looking forward to learning my way around this site and talking with other MI moms.

Hi all, Another group that I just join is tHE BLUE STAR MOTHERS. There is a chapter in St Clair that cover most of the five eastern counties, but I am sure there are other groups in the state. It is for moms of all the services and if you google it you will get the web site. They are chartered by congress and it is very interesting. We meet the first Tuesday of the month, next meeting is Dec 2nd, at the American Legion hall in St Clair at 6pm. Thats just south of Port Huron.
Jackie my son Rob is in Gronton now studing to be a submariner. Waht job does Erik have, what boat? Rob plans on being a missle tech.
Potluck sounds good.
