Although I live about 750 miles away (atlanta) now, I will claim Wayne County as my home! Spent my elementary years down in Monroe Co and then most of my life in Wayne. All of my family lives in Wayne or Livingson County still so we talk daily and I get back to visit a few times a year.

Great map Lisa! Perhaps you can put it in the discussion forum so it doesn't get lost in all the postings. I can see where we would want to reference frequently going forward.

Glenda, welcome to the group. I have been on the site since it started back in January and do not remember a group dedicated for this job so why don't you start one as there are probably other moms on the site and they would love to connect with you as well.
If you need any help on how to set it up, let me know.

PS...where is Goodrich? I was from Livonia but my sister called me yesterday and was heading up to her place in Kalkaska. Thinking it might be cooler up there now (?)

Welcome to all the new Michigan moms, I don't get to this forum as often as I should but delighted to see the growth.

Lots of new boot campers and lots of new sailors as well! Hope everyone is well and has a good weekend!

Good Morning all

Good day yesterday, my "kid in the box" came also, and Kristy like your there was no information in it either. Robert's gf was over when we opened it and we were both a bit disappointed, wanted at least an address. And it was just like Robert, looked like he just steped out of his clothes and threw them into the box inside out and all. But it was good to have something that he held last.
His gf visited with us till about 9pm last night. it was really good to have her over. Made the house not so empty.
I am going to try to call the recruiter today and see if they have the address and division that he is in. The waiting for info is so frustrating but I guess we have to get use to it.
Well back to work.
Have a great day.

Kristy

I am soory you didn't go to MEAPS it was nice. Danny sounds like a very nice boy. I know that that mom appreciated the call too.

You are right I think that this is the best thing that they could be doing. There is nothing really to offer our young people here in Mich.
Robert is going to Conn. for his A school. He is going into subs as a missel tech I believe. He had wanted to fly but has poor depth preception so I guess he figured if he couldn't be above the ground he be below it. Any thing to add more gray to my hair. I just hope he will fit into a sub he's 6'4''......
I am hoping that his "kid in the box" will be on the porch when I get home. I don't know how long it takes.
Well I have to get back to work or at least trying to. Hang strong

God bless all of yours.

Hi Kristy

we were at MEAPS the same day, that was a very nice thing that the military let the parents see the kids off. I missed Robert's call on Thursday by about 20 minuets, but he had taken his cell phone and called me from Ohara when they landed so I know he got there. Hope to hear from him next week, if what they say about the mail is right.

I am having a hard time concentrating on what I need to do. I really did not think I would miss him this much. I got a call last night from his gf and she just wanted to talk, that was nice she is a good gilr and we all really like her but they both have long range plans so I hope they keep focused.

Hang in there this site is really nice as it shows we are not alone. Are you planning on going to PIR in Oct? We hope to take the train from Port Huron to Chicago. Maybe if they grad together we can meet

Hi everyone, I made it thru Robert leaving, he shipped out on Wednesday the 13th. It was a very nice ceremony in Troy at MEPS. I highly recommend any of you if you get a chance to go. Just don't be there at 9 like our recruiter said to. The swearing in is laterr in the moring around 11.But before that there is a lot of waiting, just take coffee. As soon as I get teh pictures downloaded I will post. Now we just wait to hear how he is. Robert called when he got to Chicago at O'Hara. But now we wait.
Has anyone taken the train from Detroit to Chicago for the PIR? I figure it would be better then driving thru Chicago.
Well I better get back to work,I can't seem to stay focused on what I need to be doing.
