OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by Dunesmom on February 3, 2011 at 6:10pm: Yea the stories that i have heard from my folks about 78 was there was wayyyy more snow. I do think i remember my parents snowed in the next town over for like a week. When they got home, via snow mobil, the snow was almost up to my Grandmas roof. The wind is a howling and i'm looking for a nice hot tub.

So Mary.. when you comin home? My Sailor is soooo home sick with the pictures i've been sending him. He Loves the snow. He use to drive around in his 4X4 to see if he could help people out that were stuck in the ditches. He is missed very much around the neighborhood for sure.

Yes Colleen the drives are plowed and with the help of my daughter, she and her dad got the roof done too. Now what to do with the mega ice cycles. I also can not wait to meet you too, but i guess we better share the cheesecake with the other girls too, even thought the rest of you gals probably don't like it as much as us, lol.... You all crack me up!

Comment by Lorraine on February 3, 2011 at 12:03pm: I remember the snow of '78. Stuck at home with our car drifted over we decided to wean our 15 month old daughter from the bottle. Figured if we couldn't go anywhere for 3 days that we could be consistent and put up with the temporary crying. We accomplished our mission and we enjoyed the snow, too. We got about a foot - I straddle Calhoun and Branch Counties in lower Michigan.

Comment by Mary Garner on February 3, 2011 at 11:56am: We are originally from the Detroit area but have been living in Northern Ky, just outside of Cincinnati for several years. BUT, my husband got transferred to Grand Rapids a few months ago and I can attest to EVERYTHING you all are talking about! I too, remember '78! I also can tell you that they freak out here even if there is a hint of snow! They close schools the night before the snow is suppose to start falling! This area has been the brunt of many a joke and the stories I could tell!

But, yesterday, for the first time in my husbands thirty plus career, HE COULDN'T GET TO WORK! But only because the apartment complex he lives in had not yet plowed the parking lot!

I am a bit envious! We have missed Michigan and I cannot wait till I am back up there with my husband! I only have ONE friend that understands and she is from Wisconsin. She too is missing home.

I remember being in Charleston and my husband, I and a friend from Maryland driving the 25 miles to base because it was payday and we wanted our checks!!! Everyone thought we were crazy but it was no big deal.

Comment by Colleen on February 3, 2011 at 7:31am: No problem, happy to do it. I'll let everyone know if I need help. But I'm going to keep the food easy to do and I'll get a cost soon. It'll be cheaper than a restaurant. I was really amazed at how many West MI Moms there were.

Took the snow blower to the deck to get the weight of all that snow off of it. Kinda cracks you up to hear about cities closing because of 1". I know they don't get that much snow, but it does put a small smile on your face! And we are ONLY slated to get another 1-4" on Sunday and 2-4" on Monday. ONLY another possible 8", but that's shovelable. Enjoy your day off Ruth. Hey Dunesmom, did your husband get the snow off your roof and still snowblow? Can't wait to meet you, my cheesecake buddy!

Really, the big reason I say it was ONLY 8 inches of snow is that they kept saying 10-15. If they had predicted 6-8 inches, well, I guess I wouldn't use the word only. Still, even if we got 15 inches, that's still a whole lot less than so many people got!

Comment by btmom on February 2, 2011 at 12:44pm: Sun is shining in Arcadia, but still windy, we're in the woods here so if we have wind everyone does. Hard to judge but I think only about 8" of snow. Back deck and driveway are shoveled, I'll go back out and help hubby finish up when he gets home from delivering the mail.
