No Chip has to work this Christmas. They are all working 12 hour days right now because of the people who have already been approved for leave. He took extra clothes with him to work today in case they get snowed in.

Jane, the food is absolutely fabulous. We never at the same place twice. We had suski several times at different places. There is a mall in Yokosuka that has a sushi bar on the ground floor. The food was really good. We also went to China Town while in Yokohama. If the kids can go to Kamakura to see the Big Budda, it is really great. We walked all over Kamakura to just do some sightseeing. The town is not that big. We also went to a small restaurant to eat and it was good. Most of the restaurants in Japan have picture menus out in front so that you can see the food that you will be ordering. My son had a house right there in Yokosuka not far from the base. It was a two story house and when I went out on the balcony on the second floor, the houses were close enough that if someone had been outside next door, we could probably have held hands. His house had hard wood floors, and the paper screens for doors inside. The outside front door was also a paper screen but it also had a hard door on the outside. Try to look at my pictures, I think I have a couple of pictures of his house loaded.

Jane, the weather was unbelievably nice. I never wore a coat. I think it was in the 50's most of the time. I am 56 and my son is in his early twenties and we had a great time together. We went to Yokohama, Tokyo, and went to Kamakura to see the big Budda. He had several friends that we would meet for dinner or just to have a few drinks together.

Sorry you guys aren't seeing your Sailors this Christmas. I am not at that point yet. I am lucky enough this year that he is in PreBuds still. I know that from here on out it could be another story.
I hope you all have a Vey Merry Christmas and a safe New year. Now for me I want a very white Christmas but I don't htink that is going to happen. That would make it seem like an old fashion Holiday.

Hey Jane(Steph's mom) too bad you did not get to go to yokosuka with your son to visit Stephanie. I was able to go over there for 17 days back in 2006 for Christmas and it was fabulous. I have some pictures on my page if you want to look at them. Here's hoping all my fellow Navy Moms and Dads in Missouri a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hi Rodwifey. Welcome. I live just outside of St. Louis. What is hubby going to A school for? My son is in A school right now Pre-Buds. He comes home on the 18th and I can't wait. PIR is so great!! If you need to know where to stay I have a great place for you. Some of us were thinking of having a meet and greet after the holidays. I will friend request you and we can talk more.

Joni, my son also worked on Thanksgiving but he is stationed in Nebraska and we live in S.E. Missouri so he only had to make a 5 or 6 hour drive to get home. We are lucky enough with him being so close that we ge to see him a lot more than we did 6 years ago when he signed up. He was either stationed in San Diego or Virginia. He then spent 2 years in Japan. I was lucky enough to be able to make that trip to Japan for a 17 day visit. That was totally awesome. I would do it again if he was ever stationed overseas and the country was not at war.

Melissa that is wonderful! About your son not the turkey. LOL I have enough to make a pot pie tomorrow but the choc pecan is all gone:(

I don't think I want to see another turkey until next year. I have ate so much turkey over the last 4 days. At least all of the left overs are now gone. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday. Did everyone get to visit with their sailors over the Holiday? Mine made a surprise visit and went home yesterday and took his DAD with him. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
