I have never understood why people continue to work in a job that they do not enjoy, and want to make everyone else around them miserable because of it! Well, maybe I do understand that a bit more now, with the economy going in the direction it has, coupled with the fact that no job is secure. And yet....to be that unhappy, miserable, for what? What gain, what purpose would that possess? I am just a different breed is all, but monetary gain is not my priority! Never has been, it is not my drive to success. Instead, the 'internal' happiness is what is necessary. I believe having others to talk to is quite a blessing to me, as answering myself all day would leave me little challenge! Ha! I always tend to know what my answer will be back!

I have often wondered how it would be to work from home, but as easily distracted I am, and procrasinator king I be, I am sure the combination would easily destroy me! More power to you! You are such a well rounded and knowledgeable, intelligent person, I know you are a fantastic asset to the paper you work for! It is nicer to get back/forth to work on cheaper gas prices, that is definately for sure! If I didnt live so far away, I would have considered bike riding! It was funny tho, the biggest gripers at work about the cost to their pocketbooks came from those that lived within a 10 min ride to work!

No, Joni, I am further to the north. But being from the "boonies" a 2-3 hour drive is nothing more than a "chance to do some thinkin' and catch ones breath"! Our snow is now all gone too, I do have a few spots that are shaded that is lingering...I am sorry you "hunger" for St.L., but just remember, those "mind traveling trips" are cheap!

Joni, I am not sure just yet about assignments, am still trying to get the details, and trying to get in touch with Lt Cmdr down in St.Louis. So awaiting his email back, hopefully soon. I agree, cant be doing much play outside of making snow angels if this white stuff continues! Luckily, it was nicer today! Glad to see the upper 50's again!

When is the meet and greet in Lenexa. I am in Spingfield, Missouri and might try to come up for it. Please let me know.

Ahhhh, thanks Joni! How sweet of you! I am going to try to make it down, and be involved in some of it, but know I can't much of it due to work. Will keep up with ya to see if possibly we can meet up or something! Will be nice to put face to wonderful words! Ha! I am going to request being a friend, so you have the choice to accept or not (Ha!)
Bernadette- welcome in! There are several moms here from over in your area. How is your sailor daughter doing?

Hello all, I'm baaaack! Had a really wacky work week, but am back after my sabatical! Ha! Have missed ya Joni, I see over on the side here, a Navy Week in St.Louis in April, 18-26!
Nice to see some new faces here! Welcome to the "newbies" but seems many of you have sailors in for a while, just new to the site! Well, we no who to ask the questions to now! Ha! Honestly, we are glad to have you come "aboard".
I agree with you, my boys have been in for nearly a year, and took me several months past before I knew there was a site to get support. So I did it all on my own, and sure was difficult!
Jennifer, I totally understand your thoughts. My twin boys had always wanted to be SEALS from 7 yrs of age, while the other kids were writing about firemen, and policemen. They researched it even then, and did the training from 9 yrs and up. My neighbors thought I had strange kids, running in pants/long shirts with a backpack and boots in 105 degree summers! (Little did they know they also carried water filled jugs for weight!). Plus, they would do sit ups and push ups while the other was "drowning" him with a hose! (I have the ruts in my lawn still from it for proof!). Unfortunately they had contracts revoked (in BC due to divisional opposition that was no fault of theirs....long story) so are going into another rate and will put in for the possibility of transfer later on.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Luckily, we only received an inch of sticking snow this morning (ground was too warm for the most part) and with the 40 degrees now, it is gone. Whew!

Virginia, hope you all enjoy the Tiger Cruise. My husband went on the cruise with our son and he said he had a grand ole time. He especially liked the 4th of July picnic that they had on the flight deck. We have pictures of him in various areas of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. That was back in 2006. I met the ship when it docked in San Diego. I got to the docks at 6:15 am and stood for over 5 hours waiting for the ship to get in. I would not have missed it for anything. It was just like you see in the movies. All the sailors dressed in white standing all around the perimeter of the ship. My son called me on his cell phone to tell me where he was standing. I got a picture of the sailors in the general area and can now tell everyone which one is my son. Hope you have a grand ole time.

So you have the thing figured out Joni? OK, now I just have to ask, what is a Texas group doing with songs about Missouri?! How quaint! I know we are known as the "Show Me" group, but....!!!
I know I should be thankful for coming in at the "intended" timing, but I also think that having other friends to help 'soften the blow' so to speak, would have been a great asset too. But you do bring up a valid point as well Joni. Yes, ignorance can also be bliss!
Pam, may each day just continue to get better and better, and those 'other days' just get further behind! Perhaps with the awakening of spring...That is too funny! Your son has taken your lead and has a wonderful sense of humor! But I wonder...I bet those florescent bulbs can get a mite warmer than 70 degress! Ha!

Ahhh Ducky! That is so sweet! Yes, I do think that His hand was in it from the start! And we will be there for you later on when it is needed! I am glad you were able to come in "before", I did not have that, and wish I did. My boys went in late last spring, and this site was just in its infancy! So, we will try our best and give you "heads up" whenever we can and just listen when that is all you are needing! Lean on us anytime!
