Hi everyone, well my son enlisted in the Navy and leave 9/14/2010. We are LDS and live in Arizona. I just wanted to say hi.

Marianne, Thanks for sharing. REading the struggles your daughter is experiencings brought tears to my eyes. I think being in the navy is hard enough for our kids in general but being LDS and in the Navy makes it even harder at times. For Jake he was the only "young man" in our branch for years and didn't have any LDS friends so being around non-members isn't new to him but the influences that are around him now makes it difficult to remember who he is. Plus he has a non-member girlfriend at home that doesn't support his beliefs. All we can do is pray and be there to remind them who they are and that Heavenly Father loves them and is there for them, all they have to do is pray and be open to his guidence....

It's okay to ramble. I'm a convert and have experienced all of that and many disapointments from different wards and brances we lived in. It's hard when no one follows though and fellowships with members new to the ward. That worries me a bit. Jake comes from a very small branch and was active at home and during BC but has since fell inactive in GL because no one has contacted him and it took almost a month before he even found out where they meet. I hope and pray he will hook up with another member or two once he gets to his duty station. So far he hasn't met any other members. My prayers are with you and your family.

Mickee6k, I'm not sure of the logistics yet. I found out from a navy dad that his written orders and transfer date could take up to 2 months so he might be in Great Lakes, IL for a little longer. But I will check and see how close they are. Is there a branch or ward close to your son?

Kelly, of course your family will be included in our prayers. Its hard to let our loved ones leave us.....

Thanks Ellen for the info. I think we met the Child's when we went to church when Jake graduated from boot camp but we haven't been contacted by anyone and as far as I know neither has Jake. I'm not sure if he will go or not but I would like him to have the choice. He went while in BC but now he has more freedom so who knows. He was told it was over the McDonalds but said there isn't a top floor to McDonalds. So at least he checked it out. I hope he goes once I find out the place and time for sure. I reminded him last night on who he was and not to forget that nor take it lightly.

My step-dad and my mother-in-law are now in a race to the pearly gates. Since my mother-in-law is 97 1/2 and is wracked in pain from osteoporosis and is on 8 liters of O2 and her short term memory is shot, I hope she wins the race. It's been my father-in-law's holding on to her and his love and care that keeps her here. If you would please include him in your prayers, so he can let her go so she can move on, I'd appreciate it. They celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary this week. They've served 2 missions each, one before their marriage and one together, plus have been temple workers in two temples.
Step dad is doing a little better, the doctors put in a pace maker to keep him more comfortable. He could still die any day, but his quality of life is better.

Does anyone know where the chapel is for A-School members in Great Lakes is and what time sacrament meeting is? My son has moved over to the a-school side at Great Lakes and hasn't been able to find where young men and women in a-school meet. Hasn't been able to go to church since BC and it's starting to bother him.
