Do any of sisters that are familar with the base know much about the USO there. The moms that I have been talking to that have boys in Jakes division and I would all like to meet after graduation and I read somewhere that the USO offers refreshments after graduation. I was wondering if we needed to reserve anything or let them know we are going to be there or even if what I read still happens. Any info would be appreciated.

Hello and Happy Mothers' Day. I didn't realize this group was here or I would have joined sooner. I'm a Seabee mom, a Latter-day Saint, and a cancer survivor. My son is not very active, but we haven't given up either. He is currently deployed for 11 mos. His baby is due in two. That's the hardest part about this deployment, knowing he won't meet his daughter until she is 9 mos old.

Happy Mother's Day everyone. I do more reading than commenting but I am comforted by this group, knowing you understand how I feel and are feeling much the same way as I do. I wish I could get my son to go to church where ever he is rather than just when he is home. He is missing some wonderful exeriences.

May God bless all of you and your families.

Thanks I know I'll get through this it's just sometimes I want to say enough is enough already. It's weird the first 2 weeks I was okay and didn't miss him a ton then week 3 came along and it really got hard and just keeps getting harder. Maybe it's because of the health issures I'm dealing with that makes it harder. SUnday in church the closing song was God be with you til we meet again. I totally sobbed through the whole thing. AT times I feel like I'm losing it. Yeah the getting married thing totally threw me - but they are at least going to wait till she's done with school in 2 years. So that gives us time to convert her.....:)

Hi Camille, Yes that first phone call was the most amazing thing - almost as amazing as his birth.......LOL. I almost dropped my phone when I saw the area code. I now want more.....He will be going to A-school to become an engineman in Great Lakes which is nice seeing we are only about 3 hours from there. I'm counting the days now till graduation. He sounded good and is working hard...

Molly, sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday. Really have had a rough time of it right now. I found out I have some major health issues after a doctors appt. and really struggling with Jake being gone. I'm so glad to hear the graduation went well but too bad you didn't have more time to spend with your daughter. I can't even imagine the joy you felt seeing her after 8 weeks and as a sailor. You must be extremely proud of her. It's so cool you got to spend a little more time with her than you expected. I did get a call from Jake last week and I am finally getting letters from Jake (1 a week) and the last one sort of threw me into a total melt down. That on top of what my doctor told me yesterday I've been crying ever since. I can't wait for graduation - I'm going to kick his butt first and then hug him like he's never been hugged by his mom. He informed us in his last letter he asked his girlfriend of almost 2 years to marry him and she said yes. I'm just a little mad/sad he didn't talk to me first. I guess moms are always the last to know huh? Only thing about her that bothers me a bit is she's not LDS. Looks like we have a missionary moment coming on.......

Anyhow glad your trip went well and your daughter is doing well.

Hello Sisters, I'm just checking in and thought I would update on what's happening with us. I got my first pnone call from Jake on Monday. I was at work and have been keeping my cell phone on my desk and turned on. He called at 2:35 in the afternoon. It was WONDERFUL to hear his voice to say the least. We talked for 25 of his 30 minutes and then he was going to try his dads phone. He sounded good, which was such a relief for me. His first letter was so sad I worried. He was sick the first week but managed to pass everything so far and really liking the guys in his ship/division. After this week he's half way done with graduation on May 27th then A-school in Great Lakes after that. He is going to church there and really liking it (whew). Thank you all for your prayers for all our children serving. Without those prayers they would be having a harder time.

Welcome to our little group Shana .

Hi Marianne, It's nice to hear from other Mom who's kids survived BC.From the one and only letter I got from Jake so far it appears he's struggling and very home sick. I can't wait to attend PIR on May 27th and to attend church there. When Jake graduates from BC he will be doing A-school at Great Lakes also and train to become an engineman (mechanic). I hope your daughter finds her way and it gets easier for her.
