My son is in Sicily too, and he is also coming home for two weeks for Christmas! It's been a year since he's gone, and we can't wait to see him.

Thanking the good Lord for all of our loved ones serving.  So happy my son will be home for two weeks during Christmas then he will be off to Sicily for two years.  I am so happy for him and what an awesome place for me to go to visit him.

So, here it is Friday and my son is heading back to Port Hueneme. It was a rough Morning for my 9 year old and me, but had a little time to get it together before work. Saying good bye is not my thing. I soo, wanted to chase after that car ..lol Not a pretty sight,my neighbors would've thought I was crazy.
@rhob61 I know this is a great opportunity for him and a great learning experience . For me it was the distance as well , when I heard Itally I almost got sick to my stomach . :) I will have to deal with it. That's what moms do , we adjust.
@ Auralei I was hoping for San Diego that's like an hour away ,not 17 hours away from me. Can't have everything.
Well ladies thanks so much , it really helps to know I am not alone.

This is my son's third deployment. I will definitely go see him this time. I was able to do a Tiger cruse with him last year. It was amassing 8 days at sea with my son. Although the bunks were a bit small...Cant wait to see him before he leaves. This will be the first Thanksgiving we have all been together since he went in.

25Navymom, my daughter will be going there soon.  I'm so excited for her.  At first I was devastated about the distance - then when it looked like she might not get to go I was devastated so I finally realized that I needed to make up my mind.  I think they will be fine!  I focus on the wonderful opportunity it will be for her! Enjoy your time with your son! {{NMH}}

My daughter uses Viber to call me.  She does have to be in a wireless internet area, so she and her roommate are splitting the wireless.  She is using the cell phone that she had in the states to do it.  It doesn't cost us a dime for her to call/text/send pictures on Viber.

We also use Voxer for shorter conversations.  Voxer is a walkie-talkie type app.  It is kind of fun because you get to pretend you are a kid a again and play walkie-talkie.

Moms, Skype has a phone plan. That is one way our daughter contacted us.
