Hi Fellow PAX group members: fyi----
rhonda: is he looking to do online classes? I know there are few colleges nearby, but I believe you would need a car to get there. Not much in way of public transportation. UMaryland and another one that I cannot think of right now. Does the base have a liasion where the sailors can find out & register for classes?
Angie: How long has your sailor been at PAX? Can you send me a message with your email? Would love to ask you some questions. Thanks, Laura
Yes they do not sure how much but my son said he is.
I'm familiar with the area and know it's a beautiful place to live, but I was afraid it a little too family oriented since my son is only 23 and single. I only wish I still had my sailboat to visit him in!
annie, yes its a nice base. I have been up there a several times since Steven and family got stationed there. My grand daughter was born there almost 2 years ago so the 13 hour drive isn't that bad when I know I have her to look forward to. They live out in Leonardtown about 20 minutes from base. They bought a beautiful home there. What does your son do there? Where are you from?
Welcome all to Pax River. It's a beautiful base
My son just got his new orders and will be heading that way in the fall, unless something changes.
Dan I guess the service is like anything else in life, You get out of it what you make of it. Life is never easy but the Navy can be a great life for some people. and in todays world the jobs are far and few between. At least he knows he gets a pay check every week and a roof over his head. Paxs River is a really nice base bau there is not alot of things to do in the area. If he has a car that will help as Washington is only and hour away. My son loves it there bt he bought a home and has his wife and daughter so things are alittle different for him. I hope your son decides to give the navy a chance and see alll that it does have to offer. Steven has been stationed in Italy twice, and Spain plus all the ports of call he has traveled to that he would never have done if he worked outside a normal 8 to 5 job someplace. Hope things work out for him and you, Karen
I've tried to talk him into seeing some new places but as of right now he just wants out, I hope this next duty changes his mind. He's packing now to return to Camp Lejeune and is dreading it. All he knows for sure is that he wants to get to a Navy base. He is a Corpsman and just got back from a deployment with the Marines.
