Flyboymom - how exciting - I had (have) tears in my eyes reading about your adventure. It's so much fun to be able to pull off a good surprise - what an exciting time for you - the boys try too be so tough, but they truly love having their families to share their joy! And it truly is amazing what we will do for our aviators - what's a little gas (for the car) and a road trip -congratulations!

Kathy B; how about a bus or a shuttle from the airport to Norfolks airport?
It's tough being alone on holidays, but sometimes it can be a great time of prayer and solitude with Our Lord. Everything happens for a reason.

my son has been flying Prowlers since 2002, and I honestly don't worry about his safety. I guess I can't let myself worry-he has been deployed and made all those carrier landings, so if you over think, you become parylised. He is now flying the Growler which is much newer, but I think he misses "Old Girl" sometimes. The Navy is replacing the Prowler, but as in all things of this proportion, it takes time and budgeted monies. Prayers always work as we wait for the changeover.

Thanks everyone!

Musicmomfran: The Prowler (EA-6B) is being replaced by the Growler (EA-18G) which is a modified F/A-18F. Looking back now, IFS & API seemed to go by so quickly. It's already 4-1/2 years since he was commissioned into the Navy and is still in training.

DJ: Win is in my thoughts and prayers every time I think of Chris and WA! I pray for all their safety. Only time will tell how the next 8 months roll out for Chris, but we are all looking forward to the event of the baby. Looks like I might be back in WA for Thanksgiving. And what a wonderful thing we'll give thanks for!

I agree musicmomfran! All those in government office should have an offspring in the service! Gee....how can we make that one happen??!!

Your son might get lucky and not go right out on deployment. Mike finished his carrier quals in Lemoore in February of last year and has still not deployed. It all depends on what Squadron he gets and when the boat went out last. Mikes was longer because the boat went into dry-dock and is now doing workups for the boat for later this year. We'll hope that he is home for the birth.

CONGRATULATIONS DIANE!!! Being a grandmother is just amazing....I am not one yet but my three sisters are and are loving it! I love my great nieces and nephews so much and can't get enough of them. I can't imagine how wonderful it will be to be a grandmother myself! ENJOY!!! :)

Great news about getting new planes in Milton. Wish they would hurry up and decommission the Prowler sooner. He failed carrier quals partly for having trouble with mechanical problems.

All ... guess what?! I'm going to be a grandmother! My son and his wife just told us the good news. This is great for them and especially on the heels of his failing carrier quals. The bad new, though, is that WHEN he passes the quals in May, he will probably be deployed and more than likely not be back for the birth of the baby in October (that's the bad news). However, if he is out, then she'll have the baby delivered back here in GA (that's the good news).

Other news...Chris and his wife are expecting their first baby in October. Bad news, he'll probably be on deployment by then.

Happy day to everyone!

Thanks AJ7 for the update. Their orders are to report no later than three weeks from graduation...so he is coming home to move his belongings to Pensacola. He will have an apartment lined up before he leaves home, so that should not be an issue. He is hoping to OHARP sometime later this summer or next fall, as they have been told wait time is currently up to 10 months.
