snowmc, One thing to note about checking in to Pensacola; they have a checklist of appointments (NAMI, suite fitting, etc.) they have to complete before they can apply to do OHARP. This process is taking my DB ~3 weeks since appointments are so filled up. The bummer about it is that they will only re-imburse him for temporary housing for 10 days so he had to find an apartment with a few other guys in order to have somewhere to stay after the first 10 days. My suggestion to your LO is to maybe not get here immediately following OCS. One guy came here the same day after grad and they told him to go home, get personal belongings and come back in a week. It helps if he has buddies that are also coming down to Pensacola, they help each otherr figure out logistics.

AJ...thanks for the input. My son is graduating tomorrow and is hoping he can get OHARP after reporting to Pensacola. He would rather be doing something than nothing!

Nancy- My father in law had Mooney. When one of my husband's grandmother's died, he came out to CO from KS to pick us up and bring us home. He couldn't get into Jeffco which is an airport about 2 miles from our home because of weather so we ended up going down to Colorado Springs and meeting him there. It was a rough take off and we kept hearing about wind shears. We got out towards Lamar in SE CO and the weather started looking pretty bad. We landed to see what was going on. We took off again and flew above the clouds, but my FIL made a decision to look for a "hole" and get below them. Long story short..... we finally made it by way of OK and TX and when we landed in Wellington..... let's just say that there are still imprints of my fingers in the front passenger seat back where I was holding on for dear life. I've been a white knuckle flier ever since. My husband thought it was exciting. If ever there is a chance for someone to fly with Mike..... my husband is going to have absolutely no competition from me..... lol.

My DB just got to Pensacola after graduating from OCS in March. He was told to report as soon as he could and when he got here there is not much for him to do but find housing immediately (there is little to no room on base in bachelor housing) and do stash jobs. It seems (if your hometown recruiter needs/wants help) many are getting OHARP. My DB is an NFO, so apparently he doesn't have to wait as long as aviators to class up but the wait is still ~4 mo.

OHARP stands for Officer Home Area Recruiting Program. Class which is just now graduating OCS has been told to report to Pensacola immediately. No OHARP unless they let them go after reporting and moving there.

It is a very definate, hurry up and wait job and the condition of the planes along with weather definately is a factor. Mike tried 2 cross countries home to CO while in Kingsville. The first one was cancelled the day that he was leaving because of a problem with ejection seats. That grounded the hole fleet until they could figure out what to do. This was nationwide and out on the boats too. When they tried again, they actually were up in the air but a problem with the plane cause them to turn around. Apparently the altimeter between the front and back seat was about 700 feet off. They went back to Kingsville and landed in a horrible storm. The instructor landed but Mike apparently had his finger on the ejection seat button. The Skipper had been up in the air too... and when they were all taxiing to shut down, the Skipper acted like he was biting his finger nails it was so bad. I would rather they be safe than sorry. After last week and the mid-air, any precautions and delays that are necessary to make their jobs safer, I'm all for.

My son is graduating OCS this Friday...he is NFO. Was just informed that all aviators have to go home and then report to Pensacola by April 16. He was headed to a meeting for more information, so if anything else happens, I will let you know.

Leslie - thanks for the thoughtson the Magster. She is acutally doing pretty well, so our hopes are good. So far, no further limping, w/o the anti-inflammatories, so this is good new. Of course, she is driving me crazy right now. Denver is just starting on a pretty big snow storm, preceeded by a thunderstorm. For such a tough little girl, she is so afraid of thunder. LOL. Gotta love her, but she sure is noisy. I need doggy downers.

AJ-7 If your son gets to be near you - you are so lucky.l Our times are short. Hopefully they will let him be at the BOQ for the few weeks he is going to be in Pensacola.

Nancy, thank you for your posts. I was pretty much thinking that surgery would not be a good thing for her because I think that she would not do well with the recovery. We see the vet again next week and hopefully she will show improvement without the anti inflammatories. I'll let you know.

Nancy, we're going to have to decide what to do with Maggie. She is 12 years old and I don't think that I want to put her through a surgery at that age and I don't know how well she would heal anyway. The anti-inflammatory that she is on right now is causing her to vomit. We have to take her off for several days. I think that we'll see her hurting more. We just can't seem to keep her from jumping on the bed. That's the only thing that she's allowed on.
