Just a FYI, NAS Lemoore Squadron VFA137 (Kestrels) had a mid-air collision last night with 2 FA18E SuperHornets. 1 pilot ejected safely and the other jet was able to fly back to NAS Fallon where they were doing training. This is my son's squadron. He was not in the air at the time so not involved, but 2 pilots that I met last Thanksgiving were. I don't know who as that is currently classified. I love my son....right now, I'm not in love with his job.

I know that I've said this before, but Mike's favorite movie was "Flight of the Intruder". It is Viet Nam era, but he loved the A-6 Intruder. He even contacted ERTL toys to see if they would make a die cast model of it like they did other planes. I know that is purely selfish of me to want him to stay here in the US but can't tell you how proud that I am of him that he is going to finally get to do what he has been traning to do for almost 5 years and dreaming of doing since he was 9. Some of his friends have already been on deployment that he went through training with. His boat had just come back from deployment when he joined his squadron and went in for a major overhaul up in WA. So it seems like it has been forever for him. Not long enough for me. It will be strange not to be able to call him up just to hear his voice and see how he is doing. We usually talk once a week and get the scoop on how he's doing. Not a real conversationalist, but he likes talking flying with Dad and I sit and listen. It is amazing when you get to see them fly. I have only been able to see it once, but I cried. I was so proud of him. Our kids are amazing.....gotta love them and support them. ;o)

I also saw Top Gun when my son was little (on VHS, I think, at home!)...funny that his baby sister is the aviator now! I don't think I could watch The Hurt Locker....too close to home. I did see Blackhawk Down and had a hard time with that even before Tracy went into the Navy. Oh boy...I prefer Harry Potter or something like that! I need fantasy! :-) Patty

Its not that I don't watch movies with a Military theme I do and I have some favorits, there are just some that hit a little to close to home.

After my son had his first mid-air incident, some of these movies just bring up to many issues that I would prefer not to have to deal with if I don't have to. Its not that I can't deal with them, I do when its required. Its just a little easier to get through the days without the extra imagines.

Love and prayers to all.

Fran - Thank you. It has been years coming and now that it is a reality, it is hitting hard. He's my only child and I like to think that we have something special. I can usually make him smile or laugh when he really doesnt' want to. He warned me that I couldn't do anything at his graduation from OCS to make him smile or laugh during the OCS parade. Spoil sport! Again, thank you for the prayers.

From what I hear, there are going to be other detachments to Fallon and several trips to the boat for final certification of the boat before deployment. He did mention that he might try for a cross country back to CO but that isn't a certain. It is just going to be hard to figure out what time would work where he will actually be in Lemoore at the same time that we could be there. Keep your fingers crossed.

Musicmomfran - I agree. I don't avoid watching movies regarding the military. I would rather be informed than not. That being said, I don't especially want to know what my pilot is doing everyday so as not to worry. I just found that his deployment is being moved up....and work ups may prevent us from visiting him before he deploys as he is going to be very busy in the months to come with no time to visit with M&D.

Lynn....Yes, it about SH60 Helos. Son, fly's them.

Ok are there any other movies out there that I shouldn't watch?

I started watching (had to turn it off) the Hurt Locker, son was in charge of IED's when he was on a IA in Aghanistan.

Lynn...I agree there are just some movies we shouldn't watch. The one I can't watch is Blackhawk down.

We lived outside Annapolis for 1 1/2 years...love the area. So much history. I highly recommend spending some time there..visit the Academy and have brunch at Buddy's downtown...I still dream about that place!
