Hi there,
My LO just graduated from OCS and is headed to Pensacola to complete initial testing before coming home to do OHARP while waiting to class up. Can anyone give any input on where he can/ will stay during the 2 weeks he is there? He has talked to a few people and it seems they are all being told different things. He'd rather not rent a place and then be gone for 4 months but will if it's the only choice. Any suggestions?

All of the planes that our loved ones fly in training are old it seems. The Prowler being probably the oldest. When Mike got Super Hornets, I was actually relieved because he was going to be flying one of the newer jets. As he is always ready to point out to his Dad (AF brat) that the AF always gets the most money!!!!

He's got mine. We've got one that tore her ACL this week and is not doing very well. She is a medium sized dog and is 12 so we don't know if she will heal or if she does, how well. I hope that Rachel's dog doesn't have anything too serious.

When Mike was in primary, it seemed like something was always happening. You are all right about the mechanical problems and the training that they go through for just these contingencies. He was flying with his on-wing working on emergency manuevers and what needs to be done. The instructor was basically throwing things at him, telling him that he had this or that problem that he needed to figure out the emergency procedure for. In the middle of this, the instructor said something to him like, "I'm not kidding this time, I have smoke in my cockpit." They called an emergency landing and got back safely but this was just one of many that he had. It got to be a joke in the squadron about how many emergency landings and mechanical problems that he had. Another time, they didn't get off the ground, but had a fire warning. They called to the tower for support and one of the other students heard it on his radio while taking off and he said " $100 says that's H____N". He wasn't wrong! Mike did tell me that while the mid-air happened that all of the emergency procedures after the collision were "textbook". He should know. He is the NATOPS Officer for the squadron and is tasked to be on top of all safety procedures. While I didn't hear from him yesterday, he told me that they had taken Tuesday as a Safety Standown and would be flying on Wednesday and would finish up their detachment at Fallon and then go back to Lemoore later in the week. He is so professional about the whole thing while I'm just now getting over being a basket case from earlier in the week.

I think sometimes we get too much information. On a day to day basis, I am comfortable with what he is doing. That is until I hear something. The carrier quals are always the hardest for me. I guess that I will just be in a state of anxiety the whole time. LOL Everyone is right.... prayer works.

All, I am so thankful for this sight to see others sharing the same fears, concerns, and support. Chris is doing his Prowler carrier quals right now. He called last night to tell me he flew out yesterday, did a few "traps" and "takeoffs" before having to return to port because of some problems. Too many mechanical problems for me. He just had an emergency landing last month. If the jet was repaired, he should be flying out again today to continue his qualifications. I'm a basket case and he thinks he's having an "adventure."

I'll continue to keep the prayer line open for all our children!

The resilience of these kids is amazing. I sent Mike a text asking him how he was and advising him that our dog has an ACL tear and is not doing well. He was more concerned with the pup than himself.
