How long is IFS and is that the part they wait around for? Is that the program that is backed up for the 6-8 months or so?

Someone posted an Aviator Slang website before that is a good reference. It's way back in the postings so here it is again. I keep a copy handy for times that we talk with Mike. Not all of them are there but a good portion of them are.

Thanks so much! Yes, I would like the apt info as well!
Is API before IFS? Do they do both before the actual flight training begins?
What's the difference between the programs in P'cola and CC?
Probably REALLY stupid questions, but this is all foreign territory to me!LOL

OCS to waiting to class up was a whole lot easier when OCS was in Pensacola. Mike had to check n the same day as he graduated. Everyone else had to rush to their next station. Pensacola to CC was over a weekend. Then he waited from mid Nov to Feb for IFS and I think he started API in March. Once he was in CC he only had 3 weeks for Primary to start up but started standing duty right away.

Do they get paid when they are waiting around for months in P'cola?
Is it hard to get OHARP? If you get OHARP how long are you in P'cola before you are released for OHARP? Thanks so much! (Trying to decide whether or not to fly or drive to P'cola...what to do with his truck in Newport....drive it to Fl or wait and see where he is ordered to go.)

It seems so long ago that my son was in P'cola and it has been @ 9 mos since he went to Corpus. He spent 6 months in P'cola but even then there IS quite a bit of down time. He is one of those "A" type personalities that HAS to be busy every moment. He trained for a marathon when he had time, stood watch and anything to pass the time. Suddenly, it happens and they are through and BOOM- they go to their next assignment. A very stressful time for all but more so for them. They know what they want and know that everything they do is so important to their career. All that we can do is be their rock and ever positive sounding boards. Good luck and peace to all the new P'col Moms!

Lisa - Pretty close timing. My daughter had less than a week. We drove for 3-days straight with a U-Haul trailer :-) What an adventure!

I've heard they only have 4 days post grad to get down to P'cola from Newport!
Is that right?

So the Pensacola guys stay in town until they get a pilot training slot?
Do they live on base?
