Chris' ship date got moved up, twice in the last month. He is leaving this Tuesday (Dec. 15)for Portland MEPS, and on to boot camp Wednesday (Dec. 16).

Today we went to Eureka to visit the mall and give Chris one last taste of civilization before he leaves. Tomorrow will be all about packing and Monday night we're taking him out to dinner and to a movie.

Hi, I'm Arwen, and I live in Brookings. My older son Chris is in DEP and will leave in April, my younger son is going NROTC and leaves fall 2010.

I was really surprised to find another Brookings mom here! Kimberly, do I know you from somewhere?

I have a fun question for you - when this group was created were you thinking of everything north of Redding, CA - and southern Oregon? If that is the case, I'm not a good fit because I'm more north eastern. Please let me know ~s

Thank you Chris, I wish that we were closer in some ways. My hope is that we will be abel to visit 'up north' your way and catch a meet and greet. Grandma and Grandpa would like to go to Yahatz (it is a family favorite spot) if we can swing it maybe it will work out. Geography is fun.
Hey Johnna Congrats. She looks so very happy and proud! It is a huge step. Our sailor bought his jeep without us in Charleston while at A school. Great 'grown up' steps, but it is always a scary reality for us Mom's.
Things are still up in the air with my unemployment - 9-22 is the next phone interview. Grandpa went to ER last night.

We are off today for the annual family reunion at Topaz Lake (395 south of Gardnerville).
The status of the M&G at our house is the same (four deffinates; two can'ts). If it stays this way, we will cancell.

While we are waiting to hear as far as how much advance notice to give to Commander Nafarrete; I'd like to encourage everyone to check out Nevada City on the internet. It is a nice little city with a very rich history. We are only a little over an hour from Sacramento. I would really like for the event to actually happen. However, truly feel for all of our benefit that we need to have at least ten (eight is the recommended number). I have waited to purchase a gift for the Commander until I know if we are a go or not. I do have a couple of suggestions, and will act on them on Wednesday if we are a go.

For those traveling over the long weekend - be safe and have fun. My angel blessings to each of you ~s

Hi Susan & All Nor Cal moms,
RE: Recruiting Officers for our Meet & Greet Events.
I invited Commander Romuel "Roy" Nafarrete to our October Event. He is in charge of recruiting for Northern California (from Ukiah to Porterville, from San Francisco to South Tahoe). When informed that we had a Meet and Greet in Nevada City, he said he would be delighted to drive to Nevada City for the September 13 Event. He said he did not mind the drive at all and he is happy to attend, even if a local recruiting officer has accepted Susan's invitation. He is checking his schedule to confirm an Oct date for Los Altos (most likely Oct 18 - more info to come). Here is CDR Nafarrete's profile.

We have a little 'opportunity' for the 13th. Our city puts on a Constution Day Parade. The Blue Star Mom's are walking in the parade. I'm wondering if those coming on the 13th would like to walk down to the parade and watch it as part of our meet and greet. We can have lunch before - then come back to the back yard and eat again and share. Karen is a Blue Star mom and she will be walking in the parade. The parade start's at 2. I am planning on joining Blue Star Mom's as soon as I am working again. Think about it - and we can decide that day. Send me a pm if you want directions to come in the 'back way' becasue what I gave you was via the 'main road' where the parade will be. It is easy truly - and we will have plenty of markers out rw&b ballons.~s

Hi Everybody: I just added a few pictures to my page from the recent visit - please take a look.

Hi Everybody:
We just completed our family visit with our sailor and his family. The memorial service is tomorrow for our dil's mother (Shirley). We were not invited, so we will hold them close in our prayers. Now, on to rearranging the house yet again, cleaning up (still), and figuring out what they may have left behind. This was the first time in six years that our sailor had been home. Wow, I had almost forgotten what it was like to cook for a family. The memories came back quickly. Now I know why some are so very lucky to be home full time. I am glad that our dil can do that for their family.. I am hoping and praying that you can all make it on the 13th. for the meet & greet. I know that it is a long drive from some because the area that we cover is large. But, we will do all that we can to welcome you, and have a great time. Our back yard can fit more than 40 folks - so, please come. Car pooling is a great way to be able to share and get to know eachother also. We do that a lot for my church lady work. I promise, come here - and I'll come to you there! My angel blessings~s
