Hi JennR,

I am surely not an expert in this area.

Having time to prepare is a good thing.

I don't think the Navy will accept a 16 yr old. Doesn't he need to complete high school first?

I was taken off guard too when my than 17 year old son ask me to sign and give parental consent for his enlistment in to the Navy. I remember my surprise without warning, in a manner of fact kind of way, "hey mom sign this". He told me they wanted him to finish high school first. He was in his senior year. He graduated and had some months of training at home before he left. He turn 18 at boot camp. He is now 20. We are so very proud of him. He has grown into a very strong and proud young man.

There are many active groups here N4M you should be able to find more information shopping around.

I know how much you miss your oldest son, and how proud of him you must be.

May God Bless our service men and women and keep them safe.

I am not a Navy mom yet. My 16 year old is considering enlisting. I am trying to be proactive with him as I felt unprepared when my oldest enlisted in the Marine Corp this year

Mississippi Navy Week is 19-27 March, and this is the first time we are coordinating events throughout a state, not just a city. The two anchor events are air shows at Keesler Air Force Base (19-20 Mar) and Naval Air Station Meridian (26-27 Mar), both featuring the Navy Flight Demonstration Team, “Blue Angels."

From 21-26 Mar, we plan to have senior Navy leaders, the Navy Band from New Orleans, and Namesake Sailors from pre-commissioning unit (PCU) Mississippi conduct events in Jackson. We are also planning for leaders in Pascagoula, Seabees stationed in Gulfport, Navy ROTC students, and other Sailors living in Mississippi to have events in their local communities.

Please do not hesitate to propose event ideas!

Tyler is a gunner's mate. Got box on 6-19-09 and received form letter today. He's in Div 277 and PIR on 8-7-09. What is your son going into?
