Jody....I didn't change the water and with it being in the cooler it kept it at car temp. When I stopped to eat I just took it in with me (it was in the middle of summer didn't want to have boiled fish). My question that you answered was if they were driving (to there destination) not diving. Sorry I didn't make that clear. I'd still find out if they require a airpump. If not maybe they can go on the plane. Call the airline and find out. The worst they can say is no. Maybe call a pet store too to see if they have any suggestions. Good Luck, Wendy

Wendy....Thanks for the info. I think the fish are just swimming fish, they don't dive. They are small like gold fish, but are blue. All I know is that they are called Fred and George and she is very concerned that her fish go with them to California.

I know that I can't bring them with us on the plane when I bring the girls out to stay with me, while the others drive the cars, so Fred and George will just have to make the ride in the car.

Do you have to keep the water cold or change the water after so many days?

What kind of fish does she have? Are they driving? We traveled(drove) from FL to IL and back again with goldfish. They don't require an airpump and I pur them in a 2 qt round drink cooler. The cooler had a crcew on lid with a opening that you poured from. This kept the water in the cooler and made sure air/oxygen got in. If they're driving and need air pumped into the tank you can buy a car converter ($25-30) that plugs into cigarette lighter then you plug whatever needs to be ran. Most cars have this output packs?/cigarette lighters back too because people use the converter to run dvd players and like. Hope this can help you. Wendy

All....I am in need of some assistance. It may seem a little thing, but it means a great deal to my 4 year old granddaughter. My son will be transfering from the east coast to the west coast this summer. My granddaughter has two little fish that she has had for a couple of years. She is already anixous about the move and wants to make sure her fish go with her.

Has anyone out there had experience moving and taking along fish? Any recommendations or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
