My son went with Yates to Boise and he signed his Nuke contract then and swore into DEP. Our recruiter here in Reno sent him to Boise as he said that the process went more smoothly there. Who knows, maybe different districts have to meet their quota and so they send them to whichever.

How are you doing preparing for the big day? Right now since we have several months left, we are trying to have a FABULOUS summer break and making memories. Every little thing this school year is going to trigger the waterworks I'm sure. I keep saying this is the last this or the last that and it drives my husband insane. I'm excited for my son, it's just those little things that make me more emotional now. I think it has more to do with the fact that we have done our job as parents and now it's time to let them make their own path in life. It's hard to let go, but exciting at the same time.

He went to MEPS in April. He was supposed to go to Boise, but they went to Sacramento. Did your son sign yet? Nick was recruited out of Carson City. He took his Nuke test in Reno and DLAB in Sacramento. Did your son go with Yates or Griffin to Boise?

CTI is cool too! I'm sure he'll be just as happy in that position. My son failed the depth perception test at MEPS. Luckily I guess it didn't affect his opportunity for Nuke. My son drove up to Boise with one of the recruiters from Carson City June 9/10. He said he enjoyed the drive and that the recruiter told him all about enlisted life and the best home ports. LOL When did your son go to MEPS?

Hi Sierrascrapper!  Nick is going is as a CTI.  He took and passed the nuke test, but when he went to MEPS we found out he's color blind!  So Nuke and about 90% of the jobs were off the table.  It was discouraging, but he took and passed the DLAB and he's happy with that.  He wanted intelligence anyway. :)

Welcome luckymomx4! Let the adventure begin. What will your son Nick do for his rating/job in the Navy? My son will be going in next July after he graduates HS, he's going into the Nuke Field. I live in Northwest Reno. Hope you are surviving out in that smoke from that nasty fire.

Hi Nevada Navy Moms!  I just found this group and am glad I did!  Nice to see lots of Nevada moms represented here!  My son Nick leaves (we think) in November.  He just graduated in May and turns 18 next Monday!  We live in Gardnerville (south of Carson/Reno) and I work in Reno.  (looonnnggg commute!) We are in the Pine Nut area.  Looking forward to chatting as we go through this process.

How cool that your son is going to be a corpsman. I bet you are so proud of him! One of my dear friends is a retired Navy Corpsman.

Yes my son went to MEPS just two weeks ago, he has a BC date of 7/1/2014. He is going into the Nuke Field. He is 17 1/2 and I'm so amazed that he has made such a life-changing decision. We are truly proud of him! We have quite the journey ahead of us. Sometimes it's still hard to fathom. For now it's neat to be able to share this experience with him. I am treasuring every moment we have.

Thanks Sierrascrapper,

My son has enlisted to train as a corpsman. He's 20 and has had 3 semesters of college. Has your son been to MEPS yet? Does he have a job lined up?

Oh boy Kelly can I relate! In March of 1992 we had what they called Miracle March. It snowed 10 feet in one month! We basically had a tunnel to our door!
