Hello Ladies, my name is Susan from Williamstown NJ. I have been reading all of your comments for many months now. My oldest son has been in the Navy since 2005, and just got back from his 1st deployment in May. He is a Nuclear Power Electrical Engineer Technician aboard the USS San Francisco Sub stationed at San Diego. My youngest son has been in the Air Force, since 2009, and is in his last bit of training as a Special OPS Combat Air Traffic Controller, an extremely tough training course very similar to the Navy Seals. They work side by side on many missions.
Dawn, you caught my attention with all your "Great Advice" for Boot Camp. Having two son's go through Boot Camp, was very hard on me. Especially the first one. It was still very hard on me with the second son, but at least I already had some insight. Maria, I can't stress enough "How very important it is to write to them every week AND to # them as you write. He may not get them one by one. They may come in a bunch. But write, write, write!!!! I didn't write everyday, but I wrote at least twice a week. That is what both of my sons said "pulled" them through Boot Camp!!! Make sure you go to their graduation!!! There were a few sailors who didn't have families there. Make sure financially you start making plans for that month when that time comes around. Another great support system for all Mothers, are the Blue Star Mothers of America Inc.. Check out their website it's another wonderful support sytem.
