Most of us have been posting discussions segregated by ship and division, but maybe we can get to know each other based on our PIR date--we will all be in Great Lakes on the same weekend.

Tanao,Cindy is right asabought the Battle Stations. That is teh last thing they do before they become a "Real" Sailor. My younger son had his BS on Wednesday night before PIR on Friday. They also have their final PFA the day of BS. That also can delay them.Keep in mind, the RDCs do everything they can to make sure they graduate. Some are delayed, but not many. Keep the letters coming.
I love the form letter! I sent several to my first son, and I got more information form him that way!
As the time gets closer, ask about which day their division does BS. On my last PIR group, we had prayers and blue candles every night for our recruits. At about 4:30 CST the day after BS, they get tocall home to say: "I'm a Sailor"
I was already in GL when I got my call. I think my son now will be in the last group this time. They go in numerical order. Two divisions a night.

splus13, I am going to fly into Milwaukee. Last time I saved about $100 per ticket, and yes it is further, but by about 20-30 miles. It is a straight shot from the airport to the base. The airport is on the same freeway as the exit to the base. It took about an hour to get from the Milwaukee airport to the base. It was nice, because I didn't have to drive through Chicago traffic! Just remember, there are two toll booths. I had to pay a total of $2.00 each way. When I go again in Jan. I am going to fly into Milwaukee again.

Wow. I was gone for one day, and I missed quit a bit! I hope all is going well.
I talked to my son in A school and asked about the first weeks in BC. I know his first letter was hard for me to read. He talked about missing home.
He said that the first weekend he was there he thought he had made a mistake, but since he had already got his hair cut, he might as well stay. (His hair was half way down his back) I asked what words encouraged him. He said that it wasn't any one letter, but the fact that he got letters.
What I took from our talk was that the recruits are homesick at first. Their new life is so different. I do know that his letters got better. He is excited because he has now reached the phase where he can now go off base and can wear civies while not on duty. (His PIR was 10-16-09)
Write to your recruit and let them know how proud you are. The week before PIR they will have Battle Staions. After that , you will get a call. Make your recruit say the words: "I'm a Sailor"
This is my second time since late Aug. and I just got my first letter from my recruit. His feeleing are no different. I just have to keep encouraging him. I keep telling how I look forward to the "I'm a Sailor" call.
So, if your recruit is saying how homesick he/she is, keep the letters flowing and the words encouraging. This being the holiday season, they need it!

Good morning!
I'm sorry to hear about what's happening to your son Luvmyboy;I hope everything turns for the best.Blessings to him,to you and family.
I feel that if any of us suffer,in any way,we can feel it;as when they get good news we all celebrate.
I just got the official letter,no calls,no recrouit letter either nor even the box,he left for BC on the 17....
I was reading about "graduation rings",I guess is early to talk about that, but is there in the pamphlet navy sent in the letter.
