Most of us have been posting discussions segregated by ship and division, but maybe we can get to know each other based on our PIR date--we will all be in Great Lakes on the same weekend.

Dawn, I just read your post about Target. What a wonderful person! I go to church with so many former Navy Vets. They all are so supportive of my boys. I also have some Army Vietnam Vets who write to my boys. They are wonderful!
Oh, I'm doing the "Happy Dance" TWO letters were in my mail box today!!!!!!! He is doing good. He is the Laundry PO, and past his swim test, but failed his first PFA. He said it was the push ups. His first test was today. He also encluded two letters that he asked me to mail to his girlfriend. They are in Portuguese, so I guess he feels save to mail them to me. (She lives in Brazil) I know English and Spanish, so I guess he trusts me! lol

Dawn,
You are right about the fine young men--that's exactly how this boot camp process is supposed to work. They learn to depend on each other, lift each other up, even put their lives in each other's hands. Far more important things than getting in shape happen through the boot camp experience.

I can't wait to see the "new and improved" version of my son on January 29th! I'm sure you feel the same.

One other thing my son wanted: A shower all by himself! There is NO privacy in the showers! All 80 at one time.

Motheralways, after PIR they can go with you, but have to be back on base by 7:30 PM. They can be picked up on Sat. AM at 8:30 and again returned that evening. Before PIR, all recruits are debreifed about Liberty. I would ask in a letter, or if you get the "I'm a Sailor" call about times for Liberty. Some will move to A school that weekend, so the best advice I can give is to stay in contact about Liberty with your recruit.
