Most of us have been posting discussions segregated by ship and division, but maybe we can get to know each other based on our PIR date--we will all be in Great Lakes on the same weekend.

Dawn, how sad! At least you now know why you never got the call ((hug)) They aren't given a second chance to call again. Now you just have to sit and wait for the next letter.
I wish everyone a letter!

Dawn, I understand! The first letter, we wait with great anticipation and want to know everything they are doing. Then the letter comes, and all they talk about is how much they miss us and cry at night. My son who just finished is 6'3" and is very private about his feelings. He has wanted to be a part of the military since he was a small boy. Then the first letter came and he said how much he missed us and cried at night. I wanted to get on the next plane to GL and sit with him, go to class with him and help with his PTs. I also heard from other moms in my PIR group, all the letters were about the same. Then as the weeks went on the letters got better. The only thing I can say is to stay up beat. Send something to make them laugh, but ALWAYS say how proud you are of them. Tell them how you look forward to getting the "I'm a sailor" call after battle stations. I would always draw a picture of a recruit in his Navy ball cap instead of the Recruit cap. After Battle Stations, they have a ceremony where the become a real sailor and replace the Recruit ball cap for a Navy ball cap and then sometime that day get to call home. Keep in mind that our recruits DO want to come home. They have the RDCs in their face all day, but remind them that in A school it will be better and how you look forward to seeing them in their Dress Blues for PIR!
Sorry for being so wordy, but I hope this helps.

Jenny, I just read your post about pay. The sailors het paid on the 1st and 15th of every month. Their fist paycheck all depends on when they arrived. (Before or after pat roll cut off day) If they did not recive one on the 15th, than they should receive one this Tues. on the first. Their fist pay check will be small. They have to pay for all their uniforms and the advance they were given for the NEX. How much they recive depends on their rate. E1, E2 ect
I hope this helps.

Carolyn, my son is in A school for corpsman now. There is a wonderful group. Sailors in A school for Corpsmen. It has a lot of supportive moms. My son in BC now is CS (Culinary Specialist)

Dawn, when a recruit stays in GL, when they report to A schools depends on when space is available. My son had to stay on the RTC side untill Tues. Then he had to wait for almost 2 weeks to"Class Up" (classes to start) While on the RTC side, it is like they are still in BC. No phones, noe laptops, and they still have to be with what's left of their division. Once on the other side, they can have their things. I took my son's cell phone, but had to take it back and mail it to him once he moved. If they move the weekend of PIR they can take their things with them. They will know about a week or so before PIR when they are moving. This is a good question to ask your recruit in a letter. I'm guessing that they should know around Christmas or New Year's. I hope this helps.

We got a call this morning too, Division 067 ship 10. I asked a lot of questions and will write tomorrow about the answers.

The big one is that Joe was told there is not more grad and go because there were too many complaints. He said that after PIR they can take leave (can't remember how many days, will check my notes tomorrow).

Also, Division 067 will not have the opportunity to write home this coming Sunday; they will have to wait until the following Sunday.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
