Most of us have been posting discussions segregated by ship and division, but maybe we can get to know each other based on our PIR date--we will all be in Great Lakes on the same weekend.

navywife - the form letter is the letter that you receive after you get the box. I goy mine three days after the box. The letter will give you his address and graduation date and it has a couple of lines on the bottom for them to write a quick note. After the letter it sounds like we have to wait a few weeks before we have any other kind of communication. So treasur the form letter.

I'm still here. I loved your mantra bit! I printed it off so I could read it now and then when I am in the need.

Dawn, where are you meeting for that drink? I'm guessing I will just have to be with you in spirit!

Thanks, Seth's mom, one day at a time and yes you are right I know he is safe now and learning to stay that way.

As a way to lighten things up, I'll offer this to think about. Joe's recruiter suggested that he begin some sort of collection of Navy "trinkets" for fun, memories, bonding, etc. Some sailors collect commemorative coins that are available all over the world, from our Navy as well as foreign navies. Joe's recruiter collectes commander caps from other ships, both foreign and domestic. I thought that was good advice, and something nice to think about.

Another piece of advice Joe got from his recruiter was to make sure to go to chapel on Sundays. The recruiter had sung in the chapel choir and had found it to be a good experience. He said that the chaplains are wonderful people, and the drill instructors do not go to chapel--so the 1 hour a week of escape is precious.
