CSW - Thanks for pointing out the difference in A school graduation time if there is a Power School graduation as well. Also, I appreciate the insight into what Power School graduation might look like. I did not realize the officers would be graduating as well.

ProudParent - Congratulations to your son!  I had mentioned 9:00AM because that was the case for my son. My son was briefed by his SLPO and instructor the day before graduation and he was calling me to give me details that I asked him to email me, as we were still traveling by car. But he told me to arrive at least an hour or more early . So, your sailor will be the best one to answer your specific questions about his specific A school graduation . And there was an MM class and my son's ET class that did graduation together. It is also my understanding that all the rates will be mixed during Power School, but I am still not certain. I will find out hopefully by next week after my son classes up and we are able to converse for awhile.

So there were two different rates graduating A school the day my sailor graduated. One MM (his class) and one EM.  At power school all the rates and the officers graduate together. Enlisted sit on one side of the stage and officers on the other. Their classes are separate, but they all go through the same ceremony and it's interesting because that was the first time some of the officer's parents had an understanding about the enlisted group.

Congrats!

It depends if there is a power school graduation that same day.

A year ago our sailors A school graduation was the same day as power school so his graduation started at 7:15 and we were out by 8:15 (after he snagged his gear) and the line for Power School was crazy coming in.  Power school graduation was different because it was the coldest graduation they've had in a long time, so because I saw the line when I was at the A school graduation I insisted we get to the base early to get a good seat. It was so cold they opened the gym for us and allowed us to wait in our cars!

Again congrats and enjoy the time.  :)

When the sailors go to PowerSchool and Prototype are all the rates together in a class? I thought they would still be separated but that was not my sailor's understanding. He also said that just because they were in A school together doesn't mean they will be in the same PowerSchool.

My sailor passed his comps yesterday so we are headed to GC for A school graduation on Friday. He said he didn't know what time the graduation starts. Another mom said her son's started at 9:00. Does that sound right? If so how early would you arrive for a MM A school graduation?

Buzzbeck - thanks for sharing about Edisto - I put the link to it in the "sightseeing in Charleston" discussion above.

Welcome Home to the USS Roosevelt!

The Roosevelt is returning from deployment this morning (San Diego).  Anyone here with a Sailor on the Roosevelt?

Comment by Buzzbeck on May 7, 2018 at 11:53am

Oh, my nuke never hung out at Folly Beach. He went to Edisto Beach weekly. A little further, but a beautiful drive through the low country back roads, past the shrimp shack, to the little town of Edisto. It survived Hurricane Matthew, sand drifts filled the streets, but it's all cleaned up.

JayDee and KamMom: wow, that year went fast! Your nukette has been very busy, as all nukes are in their first year. We nuke moms appreciate hearing about her experiences through you, since so many of our sons are introverts and don't talk about their feelings. Drives me nuts. My nuke continues to mature and gain confidence. I now think being a nuke takes a God given combination of brains, stamina and patriotism. God has a special place in the Navy for our nukes. It may not be obvious during the arduous 2 year training, nor the first year in the fleet. But their time will come, when all of this will pay off.

Welcome to the newest members and thanks for the heads up on the dental exam. I spoke to my sailor yesterday who's in prototype at BS and asked him about check up status and PT status and he said some guys were held back after graduation because they didn't have their medical current which is on the sailor.  If they don't have it they wait and the time to get it done cuts into their leave before assignment.

So THANKS!
