Kai Cat - and any others whose sailor was in THU after PIR, if you can share your sailor's experience with X'sNukeGF in her discussion above, I know she would appreciate it.

I did not know about the instagram thing. I will have to look into that. I am a member of the FB group Loved Ones of Hawaii Submarine Sailors. You have to go thru a process to join as it is a closed group but it is a pretty good one.

The toll road issue is a total bummer. Something not good there. I had heard of there being issues with the toll roads in Virginia as that is where twin 1 was stationed.

This is my 4th deployment to live through. Twin 1 to join was an it on a destroyer. He deployed twice for 9 months, but could call and fb chat. I could send care packages often. He now is out of the navy and moved to Alaska. Twin 2 to join is the one on the sub. It is a fast attack. The first time the obundsman was not great about communicating. He did internet call when they were in a port. Also she did give a heads up to one time to send cards to someone who was meeting the boat. I also emailed daily and he got them in bunches occasionally then would shoot me an email. He also would ask, Is anything weird going on on the news?? They would not have a clue. This time we were given a list of things we could do ahead of time. I bought him a calendar day and made a poster that will be put up that day, His birthday. and a halfway box sent to be packed aboard. and all those letters. She lets us know everyone the boat came in from an underway as well. After this deployment my twin 2 will be finishing up his 6 years next year and be coming home to go to college.

Kai Cat - glad to hear your son has classed up. I assume Captain's Mast came up because they would have discussed issue re: it more indepth during INDOC.

The T in his class is just a designator for ET.

Re: Mail - so far I haven't had any issues with things that have been sent, but I generally tell my son when the pkgs are to be delivered and remind him to just go check in the mail room for him.

Well, between my youngest and I, I think we spent almost 3 hours on the phone with my son this afternoon. Today was his I&CE 3 exam and it was not the outcome he was hoping for. I also found out that at least for ET's they do not continue having PT at least during the last stage of ICE and they also don't have to run 5K again until they start Power School. It is my understanding that they will be switching over, if haven't already to morning 5K runs. If they are still in FIT because they did not pass their physical evaluation then they still have to do PT, but otherwise their class is relieved from that so they can study more. Only nothing took into account that they were confined to their BEQ during the tornado warning, so he lost homework and then study time this last Tuesday. He said the rain also just came in an instant and poured like it does when we are usually underground during our tornado times. Made me stop to realize I am going to need to plan for rainy weather there.

A girls trip sounds fun - Branson is doable for me!

Kaicat, Google "captains mast". Its basically a non judicial punishment and can have many outcomes. I've heard of some who are separated and some who just received another form of punishment.

Comment by kai cat on March 22, 2018 at 8:08pm

I love the idea of a girls trip!  I feel so shy about meeting in person, but so brave on-line!

Without a lot of details - when you are 'masted' does that mean you will be separated?  Or no longer be a nuke?

I'm so happy today! Got my son's official class #1827-T!  Anyone else in here with the same class?   What does the T stand for?

Thanks ladies :)

It's crazy about the mail situation. Other than a lost package that she sent me we never had any trouble. Must he a change in staff.

Comment by AZ2OH2IL2UT on March 22, 2018 at 7:48pm

momterp that doesn't surprise me. My son's packages sometimes took FOREVER for him to be notified. He finally decided to get a PO BOX instead.

Comment by momterp on March 22, 2018 at 7:43pm

Speaking of packages, I learned a valuable lesson: I had ordered a Mrs. Fields cookie for my son's birthday to be delivered to GC. It arrived on Monday per FedEx and to date my son has still not gotten a package slip. I gave him the tracking number but he seems reluctant to go check on it without the slip. One complicating factor is that he just graduated A School and did not have his new address yet so I sent it to the one with his A school class number. He also had not received the birthday card I mailed a week ago as of the last time I communicated with him yesterday. Disappointing!
