PacNWmom,     My son just graduated on Nov. 13 from A school and is waiting to class up to Power School.   You said that your sailor had just classed up.   when did his classes begin?  I guess my son will be in the next class.  I was just wanting to estimate when he might be starting Power School. I know there is a PS graduation on 12/18.   Glad you had such a great time in Charleston.   We live near Columbia in SC midlands, so we do get to see our Sailor on a regular basis.  We are waiting to hear about Thanksgiving.  He already told us that he had duty over Christmas and would come home a few days after Christmas.    Best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Bright future hug our sailer for all of us. I hope to be hugging one of mine at the end of December.

My son told me just this last spring when he was all done and headed to his duty station that the day he left for BC his dad told him "you will never succeed you know" What a turd. My son said it made him try all the harder and for Power school he was second in his class. Funny thing he did not even know until his room mate told him. Love that big tall kid.

Pardon my error.  I'm just an ignorant civilian and did not intend to offend anyone.

I'm not a worrier by nature but boy the waterworks can start at the slightest provocation. Britefuture, I was too late getting on the webcam to watch the Roosevelt come in, darn it! But I watched the Vinson last June from my desk in Nebraska all the way from when they were a speck on the horizon to the point they quit showing it on the web cam. I went through quite a few tissues.

Lilo, loved the story of your dad. Our kids really look up to veterans once they become part of the military. It's touching to me. When I see my son get together with his veteran BIL and cousin, there come the waterworks again!

We are such lucky moms to be the parents of those brave sailors! No matter what their job is on their ships or subs, they are out there serving not just their country, but protecting their families and in the process so many people in the world. I'm so proud of our kids!

I'm not a fan of all the shirts that say "Keep calm and....do whatever" but my husband saw one that amused me. It said "I can't keep calm, I'm a Navy Mom". Described me to a tee. Especially that day.

Britefuture - enjoy giving your son some of those big Navy Mom hugs!!!!

By the way, the invitation to Power School graduation was in the mail today.  I know that doesn't mean he passed because he still has comps.  But now I have to get some extra blue candles and shout out to my son's guardian angel - his grandfather.  On Wednesday, it will be my son's 1 year Navy Anniversary and four years to the day since my Dad passed away.  My Dad was also Navy during WWII and Coast Guard reserve until he retired.  Patrick joined the Navy partly because of his grandfather and they talked military stuff all the time. So, hopefully my sailor will have plenty of support to help him these last few weeks!!!! :)

My hubby tells friends & family (often) that this site is what keeps me from going crazy (and taking him along with me!)  It's definitely worth any amount of therapy ;-)

Eric's Mom - thanks for sharing your son's experience with me.  I know that it is always the possibility that my son could not pass at this point too.  But, when we saw him back in October, he told us it was hard and that the "torpedo room" was looking better and better.  He said that he accomplished his major goal of completing A school and getting his "crows".  No matter what happened in Power School, he felt the Navy would find a good fit for him if it PS didn't work out.  So, as others have said, no news is good news but he also might not want us to worry like your son.  I am so glad that it worked out so well for your son.  Good for him that he tried and made it so far but it sounds like he is much happier in his new rating.  I wish him much success.

Oh, and J's/S's Mom - love the tracking chip idea!!!  Too late now, but it would have been awesome!!!!

Thanks again to all the encouraging comments.  Love this site.  This is a great group therapy session for me and helps me keep my sanity during this latest nerve racking experience (but I won't tell my son until after he gets out of Power School).

I'm not sure who worries more. Mom's/Dad's of Nuke's in training or the trainees themselves. My son stressed out towards the end of PS because he had a few failed tests but he pulled it out in the end. I certainly can't ask anyone not to stress but I can say that you are never alone. Many of us have been there and struggled along the way. I came to this group many times while my son was still in the pipeline. In fact, I'm not sure that I could have gotten through it with out this group. At least not with out strong medication, lol. What ever they do, where ever they wind up in the Navy, they are all hero's to me.

My son is on the Roosevelt and I watched his ship come in while I was at work today. It was very difficult not to cry. What an amazing sight. I get to pick him up tomorrow and hug him like no body's business.
