PattiP, did your dad enjoy his day today?  That is so awesome that he was well enough to go.  :-)

I guess all our sailors that are being put on hold in BS are a bit bummed and getting anxious to move on.  On the other hand, upstate NY is a great place to spend the summer. My son won a Harley so he should have a grand old time.

My son is on "hold" as well in BS. He said they were just given a grad date in Oct. that will make over a yr he has been up there. He's ok with it as he has done all quals he can do so there is little stress right now. He does joke that he's now been in Navy 2 yrs this month and has yet to be on a boat! Most of them have had to scramble to sign new leases and my son was lucky to pick up a new roommate as his is graduating in a few weeks. Hopefully they can get some time off soon. They're still doing 7 days/12 hour shifts so it's still taxing on the body and spirit!

Cathy, my son has also been delayed from May to October.  He's a bit bummed.  Like your son, mine wants move on and get out there.  My son said he may be able to come home June/July for a couple of weeks.... will see.

Comment by cathy on April 22, 2014 at 7:28am

My son has been extended so many times it is ridiculous.  He has wasted a bunch of time on hold.  Now his graduation date in BS has gone from April to October.  He has already been in over 2 years and is anxious to get to the fleet.  The only good thing about this latest hold, is they are talking about a Shutdown where everyone gets leave.  That I would love to see.

bethr, if the reactor is not working then the Nukes can't do the procedures required for checkout.  The amount of time a reactor in unavailable can vary, it all depends on what type of problem or maintenance issue there is.

I posted this in the Ballston Spa group so apologize if others have also read it, but I'm told that prototype has been extended to November, and son thinks it may go through the end of the year. Do they need equipment to do checkouts on or is it all theoretical? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that a phase that normally lasts around 6-7 months is getting stretched to 11. Thanks for any help!

Hi there, I am new here and my son just got to Goose creek from RTC.  He is pretty self reliant so Im not sure he will "ask "me for too much so I plan to bake and like the towel idea for packages, but I will gladly accept any /all ideas or info on this next phase for him!  Thank you all and to your sailors for their hard work and dedication.  The NUKE program sounds intense but the payoff should be great in the end!
