They did biopsies and I have a Barrett ulcer at the opening of my stomach and the end of my esophagus. It is also a pre-cancerous condition. Have to have scopes and take meds for life. Each year the risk of cancer increases by 1%.

Trying not to think about that.

@ Twin SailorsMom... did they test for 'Helicobacter pylori?

it is a simple blood test.  Many times this is missed.

Helicobacter pylori is a type of bacteria that is a major cause of stomach (gastric) and upper small intestine (duodenal) ulcers camera.gif. Infection with H. pylori may also increase the risk of stomach cancer.

H. pylori bacteria can cause ulcers by growing in the lining of the stomach, producing inflammation camera.gif and causing the stomach and intestinal lining to be more easily damaged by stomach acid. But most people infected with H. pylori do not develop ulcers. An additional factor—one that cannot always be identified—may be needed to cause an ulcer to form. Such factors may include:

H. pylori bacteria can be eliminated by taking certain antibiotics that are specifically directed at this bacteria.

People who have had a peptic ulcer and are infected with H. pylori need treatment to cure the infection to lower their risk of getting another peptic ulcer. Treatment with a combination of medicines is highly successful at curing an H. pylori infection.1 Sometimes H. pylori bacteria are resistant to certain antibiotics, which can keep the medicine from killing the bacteria.

For some people who have taken medicine to treat the H. pylori infection, a follow-up test may be needed to make sure the infection is cured.

How cool to have an anniversary on your birthday Christy (ET Nuke Mom)!  I know what you mean about being hard on ourselves for stupid stuff. I have always felt that I had my kids at an awkward time.  I always felt like I was too young or too old, never happy with being just right.  LOL  Even though I didn't have my kids too young.  I got married at 21 and had them at 25.  But for some reason I felt like I never connected with all too many Moms who had kids in the same grade as my kids.  WEIRD  I don't care as much anymore, but when my kids were younger...I felt like I didn't fit in.

Happy Birthday to you Melanie!  I'll be celebrating myself in just a couple more days.  I have to admit this has been the probably the BEST year of my life and it is only going to get better with all the milestones coming up.

Cybermom - Wow - glad the grumpy guy was safe!  That's a little too close for comfort!

SlezaksMom - ugh moving!  Nice that you will be closer to family, but still - ugh moving!

CoTwin - glad you are on the road to recovery.  Bleeding ulcer is not good - you need to make sure you take care of yourself!  Too often we are more worried/concerned about others and we neglect ourselves (I guess it's that whole MOM thing!).  Please take time (make time) for yourself and stay healthy....This goes for everyone out there!

@1proudmomma - I'm with you!! Weights and I'm out!!

I'm surrounded by cardboard boxes, rolled up rugs, way too many office supplies for one person, lots of clean, folded clothes, too many shoes, a donation pile and how does one woman need so much make up, hair care and bath products?!?

Yup. I'm moving back to my old stomping grounds and closer to my sisters and aging parents in Florida this weekend. It will make leave easier to navigate for my sailor and there is nothing for me in TN anymore without him here.

I've spoken with him quite a bit as we've sorted out what he does and doesn't want to keep from the things I've been storing for him. I lamented on how much I hate moving and how much stuff there is -- even though I have been purging. My son was supportive about my grumbling for the first few consultations.

Last night he said, "I know you don't like it, but try to remember: at least you're not camping."

That kid knows me so well!! Lol

Co-twin - I may just start saying that I had him in a past life and go from there! (Negative-number math screws me up every time!)

I'm glad you are a survivor and are recovering!! I'd miss you if I didn't see you here!!

Grumpy old man happened to be in Tupelo on business the day the tornados hit.  He was at the office when one hit, drove south because the hotel he stays at closed due to the storm, and another tornado hit a block away from the second hotel.  He was freaked out, and when I called my nuke, all he said was, "wow, that is so cool, wish I'd been there!"  Dumba**.....
