Tuesday, I was ready to cry, since my son was sure he'd failed comp.  He didn't, thank goodness, although I understand that a lot of kids did not pass.  Anyhow, I just got a text from him that he will receive the "Sailor of the Class" award for his hard work and determination, and "best representing the Navy's core values of honor, courage and commitment".

Now of course I regret not going to graduation (he said not to, as he's coming home for leave that day) to share in this amazing moment with him.  I'm so proud of him, and so blown away, he's just turned 19.

Again, any and all pictures are welcome, I know I don't post here a lot but I do read and just had to share.

Good Morning!  Thanks everyone for the sightseeing suggestions for BS/Saratoga Springs.  I've made a note of them and will see what we are able to fit in....one more week, can hardly wait ;-)

Christy - I'll see if I can get the pic from my phone if I still have it.  You'll die laughing.  Here's some back story on the whole thing.  When my mom and dad got married Art Deco was all the rage.  One of my moms wedding gifts was a lamp with the old oil cloth like shade and the base of the lamp is a black puma ready to pounce.  UGLY.  Well about 7 years ago, they moved and my mom had the lamp in the pile to go to Goodwill.  My sailor saw the lamp and asked her if he could have it.  Of course she said yes.  My husband was horrified when that thing came into the house but it was in Dan's room so no biggie.  The other son just bought a condo and moved out and needed a lamp and "borrowed" the puma until he can get another one.  Dan is freaking out that it will break before he can get it back.  He says he "needs" it for the top of the bar.  After all, he says, it matches!!  These kids are all too funny.

Along the Hudson River, there is much to see.

The little town of Woodstock is quite interesting. Yes, THAT Woodstock.

If you travel a bit south, stop by Boscobel House & Garden

http://www.boscobel.org/

Storm King Lodge is wonderful, near Storm King Art Center.

and take a tour of the beautiful army post at West Point (United States Military Academy)

Cathy... A true nuke, yes they do have priorities, let me guess it has an x box attached to it.

Hey nothing wrong with dumpster diving, we live in a throw away culture. I personally believe in repurposing.

My son and his roommate have  become a garbage collectors.  Someone was throwing out tables so they took them.  Then they found lamps. They also found a lamp and a TV stand,  Their couch and loveseat they bought for $25. but there were no cushions so they made them out of foam and covered them with blankets. I was afraid to see what the place looked like.  When I finally saw the place, I was shocked to see the 52" TV.  Obviously, they have their priorities!

For the history buffs, one of the most significant sites of the American Revolution is nearby.  Saratoga was the victory that resulted in recognition of the new nation by France, marking the point where the tide turned in favor of the colonies.  I have not been in upstate NY myself, but the website looks like it would be an interesting visit.

BoyWonderMom I am right behind you. My nuke left Ap 23 last year. I wonder how they are doing as they are in Power school together.

Today is the one year anniversary since my boy left for bootcamp. Even if I get to see him every month, I miss him like crazy. Thank God for navyformoms, it's a lifeline
