chrisjoshuasmom, you can go to the airport with your son and wait and sit with him until he flies out. My son was originally leaving at like 12 am, but then called us and said it was changed until 7 am. We headed out to the airport (using Sarges shuttle/cab service) and arrived at the wonderful USO at the airport, where we found out his flight was delayed again until later Sat evening. We went and got security passes so we could accompany him to his flight gate later and then took off for Navy Pier (can ride the train from the airport) and the rest of my family joined us and we had a wonderful day with him and another sailor. Then we got to go sit at his gate with him until they left. You just never know. He will have his itinerary at PIR or shortly after, just make sure you are ready for anything!! you can take his cell phone, laptop, etc to the airport and give those items to him also. My son also requested some boxer briefs and I took 2 pair...he and his friend both promptly went into the restroom and changed out of the "whites'. Happy boy!! LOL

anyone have a sailor in A school now in class 1335? They would have went in May.  My son has lost his phone and it is turned in to lost and found and has not been on facebook to see my message. Received a message that it was turned in there but no way of letting him know. Just looking for a classmate...thank you.

Chrisjosuasmom, my son is going to SC as well.  I wonder if they are ALL leaving at that time.  That made me feel a little bit teary, actually!  What is your son's PIR date?

I barely crochet, but knit fairly well.  I would think a crochet beanie would not be hard.

Comment by kayinaz on July 18, 2013 at 6:02pm

That is not normal.  They should have issued him sheets, a pillow and a blanket. I'm not sure what else but I know he should have gotten those.  He should go back to billeting (or wherever they issue at for Nuke school) ask about items he is missing.  He can ask his roommate for more information.

Janet - have fun visiting with your sailor!  Get lots of hugs :)

Chris - glad to hear your son is doing well in BC.  It's too bad you won't get to spend much time with him after PIR but the good thing is you will be able to have more communication from that point on!  And it's nice that you have family in the area - we are in California so it's harder to get that way.

Co-Twin - they gave me the option of either knitting or crocheting but since I didn't know what I was doing I figured a straight crocheted scarf would be the easiest!  Maybe once I master the scarf I can work my way up to a beanie!  I'm not the most talented when it comes to stuff like this - LOL

Good Evening, my son Danny is now at Nuke school in holding. However, they did not issue him a pillow or a blanket. Is that normal? Also he has not mentioned anything else, he did not even mention the pillow and blanket until I emailed him and asked if he wanted his pillow.  Does anyone know if there are more items they do not issue that he needs????? Thank you

I'm so excited ... my husband, daughter, and I are headed to Charleston for the weekend to see the sailor son!  YEA!  He may not have much time to visit since he has to study for a Monday test, but I'll see him!!  I'm going to hug every sailor I see and remind them to call their momma!  Move out the way, I have 850 miles to drive in his small truck!!
